I need a footswitch for an Ibanez DS-10. Of course no one will sell one listed as such. But I am wondering; would the Boss type as sold by Small Bear work? I really don't have one to eyeball and tell from having it in front of me, so hopefully someone else will know, and save me some thumb twiddling while waiting for a Small Bear order gets here only to find out I am 100% wrong.
Another idea; how difficult is it to take the Ibanez switches apart and work them into functioning again? If I hafta ask, does this mean I shouldn't be screwing around with the switch? Thanks in advance for any tips, tricks, leads, or words of caution.

If I'm not mistaken, they are both momentary on. That means they only complete the circuit when pressed (they turn the circuit from buffered thru to effect thru). So in theory it will work, but I'm comparing a Metal Screamer to a MT-2 and while the square hole size looks similar, the Ibanez sits higher. If you allready ordered it I'd try to make it work. If it's a pedal you use and don't consider it collectable, you could epoxy it in place. Hope that helps!

I don't have any ibanez pedals but if the switches do look similar then maybe Laurie's guide on how to clean a Boss footswitch might be usefull.

I have a hunch that if it ends up being a tad vertically challenged, I would epoxy a disc-shaped rubber 'bumper' underneath the treadle so it make contact with the switch. But the cleaning guide has my wheels turning. I may just try that and see what transpires. I'd hate to wreck the switch trying to take it apart in a half-assed attempt at cleaning it! But I've done crazier things in the name of scientific learning.

I just cleaned the switches in a pair of Boss compressors. With good eyes, good light, and a small scredriver, it's not a hard job at all. I would definitely print out Laurie's instructions and clean the existing switch (asuming the Ibby version comes apart the same way) before jury-rigging something else in there.

Other than that, your "short switch and rubber pad" will probably work. I've been known to stick a piece of rubber on the underside of a Boss tredle to make it work a little more reliably until a proper fix could be accomplished.

Or, you could drill a big hole through the thing, shoe-horn in a 3PDT, wire it true-bypass, and blame the mess on Robert Keeley!
