I always wanted to try that jellyfish, but I was worried what it would do to the strings. I should try it now though, I bought the wrong strings, and cant wait for them to break and put on some good ones (i dont know why, but I just cant take off a working set). They wound the G string, so its tougher to get nice bends out of it, and it doesnt sound as good anyway. However, I always have problems with keeping the G string in tune, but with it wound, it keeps it long (i guess since its not bending as much?)
After trying out a bunch of generic picks of various thickness, settled on Fender mediums. I use a Fender thin once in a while, but usually go back to the mediums. The pearly green ones.
I had the same thing happen with my archtop g'tar where the .017ga G-string didn't stay in tune. A wound g-string .018ga stayed in tune, and sounds better, and bend just as easy. Wasn't sure what the origins of the wound G was, and it came from the pole heights of the vintage Strat pups, the things you find on Wiki. Then theres some who claim the unwound is poor and even sour |
