| I went to the boss site to check what was that TU-12 you're all talking about and came across with the TU-1000... What the hell is that for?? I mean, who would buy that? It's as big as a whole pedalboard judging from the pictures... |

| Thanks for the links! They're quite funny. The first thing I thought when I saw that monster was 'this is the first step towards the TU-3' as that pedal seems outdated as someone stated here previously. |

This is the legendary industry standard TU12...

After my korg hand held held died I went tuner shopping.
I compared 3 compact pedal tuners.
The tu-2, korg pitch black, and planet waves.
Tu-2: the only reason I would get this was to add to my boss collection. It sucked tone badly, and had a buffered circut. I just didn't like it.
Pitch black: this was better than the tu-2 but not by much. The construction seemed cheap.
Planet waves: this chrome boy is bada$$, the construction was far better than both the others, is a true bypass, 3 different tune modes, 2 out put options, daisy chain output. And is heavy for it's size. And the shocker was it was less than the others. And if anything were to happen to it, planet waves will shoot you a check to replace it no questions asked!
Can you guess what I went with? |

Ok, that was helpful as I'm planning on buying a pedal tuner soon. I think you're talking about the PW CT-04, but you didn't say it, I don't know if they have more models. The thing is I came across the Ibanez LU20 in another forum and it made me question my preferences, as I was sure before I'd go for the Pitchblack. Anyone has experiences with them to help me decide? |

First of all, cudos to Planet Waves on their customer service, it's excellent. I know this because I got the CT-04 before it was introduced in Europe; my previous experience with PW products were all positive and I really needed a replacement for the TU-2. The first one I got was cool except for the hum it generated when muted. They sent me a new one pronto, with very little questions asked. Sadly, this next one did the same thing. There are claims that it won't hum when placed last in your chain or when run on batteries only, I never bothered to check, it has to work anywhere. I've sold one and I'm giving the other one to my kids. Accuracy on the CT-04 is like the Boss, +/- 3 cents.
The contenders are the Peterson SS-2, The Korg Pitch Black (+) or the Turbo Tuner ST-200. Some people get the Korg DT-10 for the buffer. Any one of these would be a good choice. I checked them out on YouTube - good consumer information 
Finally there's the Boss TU-1000. Dunno why, but I can't help thinking about how Arnold speaks of the T-1000 in Terminator 2! That insane killer machine that was indestructable?

Thanks, Iversen! Well, I'm plugged onto youtube lately because of all the pedals I have in my wishlist, and the only thing I got from all those videos is a lot of GAS (whatever that means): now I'm not sure between chorus pedals (core tone vs Boss), tuner pedals (Korg vs st200 vs Ibanez) and recently I felt the need for the verbzilla... I'm doomed to be broke in a few months.  |

Well, Mansun, if you can afford it, go with the Turbo Tuner, there's nothing faster or more accurate.
For chorus I'd go with a Boss, maybe even look into an old CE-3, they're dirt cheap, analog and stereo in case you need that.
About that reverb pedal, you're on your own - I wouldn't know where to begin.

Well, that specifically doesn't mean a thing to me. There is a lot of unknown good gear to most people that could perfectly fit the sound you're searching for, and that works with tuners too. And don't forget endorsements and merchandising. I don't know if TU2 is a tone sucker but our other guitarist in my band has the pitchblack and, as far as I know, he's happy with it and I've seen it working.
@ Iversen: thanks for the link! Now I know what GAS, MIJ, MIT and NIB mean thanks to this forum hehehe. |
