Bossarea forgive me, for I have sinned. I bought a non-Boss pedal - worse yet, it's a booteek pedal. Specifically, an Xotic BB Preamp.
I love my Boss pedals, and was happy modding dirt boxes to get what I thought was a great sound (DIY SD-1 mod and a Monte Allums Recto DS-1). But I was at "my boss the gear ho"s house a month or so ago, checking out his Fender VibroKing. We were trying a couple of his dirt boxes through it - a Full Drive 2 and a BB Preamp. I thought, dayum, that BB sounds good. So I checked it out on line; found a demo by Andy Timmons (whose tone I love), who says basically that it sounds great no matter what. Set the knobs wherever, it just sounds good no matter what.
I waited a few weeks for another chance to go to the bossman's house, this time with my rig in tow. This was my chance to A/B my SD-1 ands DS-1 against his BB.
Woah.
The BB stomped all over my lowly modded Boss boxes. And Timmons is right - dialing it in is simple - it just sounds good. So a couple of eSnipes later, I have a BB of my own on the way. I'll keep the modded Boss boxes for special occasions, but the BB is going on my pedalboard. Take some solace in the fact that the CE-2, TR-2, BF-2 and DD-3 will remain.
Also, help me finance my unnatural, uncontrollable urges by visiting "The Marketplace" to check out my spare pedals (extra BF-2 and DD-3) for sale.
I feel so dirty. |

| Don't feel bad, I don't think everyone here all-Boss pedals only on their pedalboards. I'm sure a few do, but to me it seems most of us like to mix and match, and maybe the majority of the pedals used are Boss, but not all of them... |

I thought of getting the RC booster after seeing some demos on you tube as well to replace my CS-3 but at the moment things are a bit 'up in the air' as i'm sort of redesigning what i use and i'm not sure if i need more pedals at the moment......i saw the timmons demo and he does get some sweet sounds out of the BB preamp and his Mesa Boogie Lonestar...enjoy...... |

Hi FRANZONI
Any chance you might post those links?
Reverend xx (here on the forum), had an RC Booster in his pedal line-up, last time I saw him gig.

Thanks for the links Franzoni
Anyone here know of, or seen a schematic for the Xotic RC booster? I wonder what centre freq's the Bass & Treble controls are?
They say +-15dB boost/cut but not at what freq's.
