| The XT-2 is about the only pedal I've ever hated, and I'm a fan of obscure weird distortions. When I picked it up I was hoping it had just got a bad rap from snobby bluesman who didn't know any better than to stick to their tubescreamers, and since it was described as 'futuristic' I had this sound in my head of a slightly synthy tone. There were two main problems for me. First it sounded very very transitory - made my tube amp sound like a cheap $20 Asian-made brandless solid state amp being overdriven. Second, it had way to much treble for my ears at the lowest setting of the punch (treble) knob. I messed around with it for an hour and couldn't find a single usable tone. I can only speculate that somewhere between final design and production something went wrong - sacrifices with respect to components maybe? I can't believe Boss would commission a prototype that sounded like that pile of shit. |
