I like the overall sound of my CE-2 but can not be changed much the sound, I'd like a more variable chorus.
Other Boss chorus can't compare (already tried), I've seen the Mxr one analog and with more regolations, anyone has ever tried it to compare?
I need a chorus that can even sound similar to a CE-2 (warm and dark)and I'm wondering if this can be the right deal.

It's strange that you use the word dark to describe the tone of the CE-2.
I have a small collection of these & I don't find that any of them sound dark.

In fact, the circuit in the CE-2, by design,
adds a very pleasant upper mid range hump-boost to your instrument, when it's engaged.

IMHO - The Roland design engineers really got it right with this pedal.

It's one of the main reasons I use the CE-2's so much.

But if you are searching for a really wet Chorus, get the an ARION SCH-1 stereo chorus unit,
it also has a very functional tone control, which would allow you to darken, or brighten the tone.

These are hard to get & they do fetch a decent price$$$.

Do not get the commonly available Arion SCH-Z, it's not the same pedal, & you may be disappointed.

Regards Dr. Bob

I too wouldn't call the CE-2's tone as dark...i like the slight mid range boost you get off it when you turn it on,a bit like the BF-2.... i use my CE-2 with a CH-1 for a massive stereo spread out through two amps....

I think '80 chorus sound really different from modern ones which are brighter and cleaner, maybe it's my guitar which got much bass but I found ce-2 darker than recent models I tried.
Anyway it's a very great chorus...I only need even a bright setting.
Ex. ce-20 was very brighter but fake and thin...

possibly the difference between analogue and digital ...?... i like the 'warmer' sound of the 80's analogue stuff,to be honest i like all my chorus,leslie,etc.....type effects to be analogue.....the CH-1(mine is the analogue version) is a bit 'light' sounding on it's own but mixed with the CE-2 it gets very deep sounding... i even tried turning the CE-2 up full and running it into the CH-1 out in stereo...very interesting effect..not quite as realistic as my dynacord leslie unit but usable.......

Look at an analogue CE-5, or go with a DC-series pedal. The DC-3 has a lot of nice sounds, with a lot of control.

I've been looking on ebay and the gbase for an analog CE-5, but most sellers don't know whether it's analog or digital.

So how can I tell just by looking at the auction?

probably need to email the seller explaining the issue and ask for the serial number..then you can put it in the decoder on the site and it will tell you the date it was made..i think they changed over around 2001 to digital but i'm not 100%.....the Boss or Dr Bob will tell you for sure.....if you want my 2 cents i think your right to look for an analogue pedal as any digital chorus i've heard hasn't got that deep sound of the older stuff.....

I've seen maxon CS550 is said to be close to a CE-2, it seems really good as chorus.
Anyone knows something about?
