I just bought an EV-5 expression pedal, but it turns out it won't work on my Boss DD-20 (the way an expression pedal works with my Line 6 DL4). Are there any Boss pedals that can utilize this thing? |

I think this expressionpedal is mainly designed for keyboards. Probably will work on some pedals which do have the seperate expression pedal input.
It may also work if you put it right at the beginning of your chain, but this is just a guess as the EV 5 does not have any outputs, just a cable with a jack coming out of pedal itself. A little limiting as a real expression pedal for a guitar-setup really............... |

It's not a volume pedal - it doesn't even sit in your signal chain. It's essentially a variable resistor like a pot is a variable resistor. You plug it into the exp jack and it subsumes the role of the pot for the parameter it's assigned too. Raising and lowering the pedal is akin to turning the knob.
The Boss RDD-10/20 micro rack delays allowed expression control over the delay time. I think the RPS-10 allowed control exp over the pitch as well (like the PS-3) |

And if you come across a EV-10 pedal, you'll need a ring-tip-sleeve cable. On the RV-5, the RTS cable is attached. It can be attached to the F-2 to make a 'Wah', or as Boss says 'Wow' Can't be used on the SYB-3 tho...
found a site where someone reversed-engineered the EV-5 http://www.worldofschmitt.com/projects/roland_ev5/ev-5-schematics.html

Great info, didn't know that. I will need to update the EV-5/EV-10 pages with that. |

I can't find a way. Pity, as I prefer the sound of the DD-20 over the Line 6 DL-4. I use the expression pedal as a variable dry to wet signal, so I can play dry with chords, full delay on single notes, and, most importantly, all points in between. -jan
