Love this pedal. So good 'n crunchy. Good compliment to my Roland Bluescube amp which most likely uses similar circuits as the DS-1 and OD in the two channels. My "clean" channel on the Roland amp gets kinda like the OD-3 when played cranked up on the pre-gain and master volume. Not as much gain as the OD-3 but does have the tube-like break up. Doesn;t do it much at bedroom levels, has to be cranked like an old fender.

The OD-3 is one of the best overdrive pedals ever made, in my humble opinion. For whatever reason (Maybe the snobbiness a lot of pedal users show toward anything BOSS?), it has yet to receive the same respect of, say, Tube Screamers, and/or a lot of boutique overdrive pedals. Personally, I think the OD-3 puts most other overdrives--Tube Screamers, boutiques, mods, etc.--to shame.

OD-3 is so good that you dont even know it... With that I mean a lot of people are going to hunt this as soon as it is deleted from the Boss line. IF OD-1 (first type) and OD-3 was both released today Im pretty sure OD-3 would be preferred by a big majority. It took me some time to find out how nice this pedal is as I bought a lot of Boss-overdrives/dists in a short time. After some time I thought I would test it against my favorite, BD-2 (modded by Stinkfoot). To my big suprice OD-3, to me, sounded different but had about the same transparency and a sound just as good as BD-2. |

| Ive heard lots of great things about the OD-3. I considered buying one a while back, but I never ended up doing it. I love the sweet distortion you get from the OD-1 and OD-3 seem to be an OD-1 on steroids so I might have to get one after all. |

I dont think it is an OD-1 on stereoids, OD-3 is much more transparent and have nicer mids, in my humble opinion at least. But its not a high gain pedal like MT-2. Sure, it has more gain than OD-1. I love both of them, they are rather different. If I played rock or early heavy metal I would use OD-1 and if I played blues or bluesrock I would use OD-3. OD-1 is perfect for humbuckers, OD-3 is perfect for single-coils, generalizing it. But both are Boss ten-pointers for sure.

The OD-3 has a tonecontrol which the OD-1 lacks. |
