g'day guys,
anybody know much about the OC-01 octaver by Yamaha? I think they were made in the 80's, and I'm in need of a cheap octave pedal at the moment.
cheers,
chris |

| I think it's a decent octaver but these are sought after so expect to pay as much or more than a Boss OC-2. The Pearl Octaver is also supposed to very good but it will also not be cheap. Here's a link to the Japanese catalog covering the Yahama OC-01: http://lngngo1039.ifdef.jp/index.html |

Hi Bossarea, idoru & Guys I have had a Yamaha OC-01 for a long time. I have had mixed results with it, sometimes it tracks fine, & other times, it mis-tracks & produces a sputtering or farting sound. This was with humbuckers.
If I remember correctly, it uses a TTL D-Type Flip Flop IC, to do the frequency division.
I will try it out again with single coils & let you know if it's any better.
It is VERY Pre-Boss pedal. And in my humble opinion: I would ask to try it out before buying it, in case you are disappointed.

Hi idoru (Chris) I saw the Yamaha compressor had One bid on it, last time I looked. I hope you managed to win it.
I stayed away from the bidding, as I knew someone here (You perhaps) were bidding on it.
Tell us what you managed to win it for, if it was you? And please tell me what you think of it, when it arrives. Most Importantly: Did it have the Battery Door-Cover & silver thumb screw. Most of the time these have been removed, it's the only way you could mount it into the custom pedal board, that Yamaha had for this line of pedals.
I out-bid RRV-10 recently, on a Boss SD-2 & Box, but I didn't know it was him. (Apologies again RRV-10)...
Hey idoru, can I ask, where in Oz are you? there are a few of us here now.
Regards Dr. Bob |

The CH-01 Chorus and FL-01 Flanger are very highly regarded over at HCFX among certain forumites whose opinions I trust. The Fl-01 will apparently self-oscillate. They also have a FA-1 type pedal, I think its called the tone booster. There's also an analog delay in that series but it's bigger, maybe the size of the green MXR analog delay at the time or even the DOD. The Octaver kind of sucks in relation to other units - it's just one or two down, but you can only run one at a time. The Pearl Octave is great because it has 2 down, 1 down and 1 up, and all can be running simultaneously. They're really hard to find (I think most of them stayed in Japan and Korea). Occasionally you'll see one on ebay and it'll go for US$100.
Bob: No worries about the SD-2. After the SD-1 I'm not going to be touching overdrives again - can't stand that sound. |

Hi RRV-10 & Guys I have both the: CH-01 Chorus and FL-01 Flanger I also have the Distortion & the Octaver
The FL-01 Flanger, is something else, it is one of the most versatile single pedals I have ever owned. I know lots of keyboard players chase after this Flanger. There is one on EvilBay Australia at the moment.
I saved the Flanger & the Octaver, from going into lank fill at the local tip. A lot of the Yamaha Effector series, have the batter cover-door & silver screw missing, because, you have to remove them to fit them into the custom pedal floor board that Yahmaha made for this range.
Your right, I have had limited success with the Ocataver, it doesn't seem to track very well, when the note is fading away, it tends to miss-track, and sounds like it's hiccuping or farting.
Regards Dr. Bob PS, Hope you don't mind me asking, who are you logged in as over on HCFX forum |
