I have a dedicated Strat just for slide playing, raised nut, thicker higher strings tuned to open A. I got the idea to put saddles from a tele to get better tone. So I drilled the extra holes in strats sadle-plate, did some filing and on with strings.
I looked really cool and the tone became a little fatter with improved sustain and "ring". Much better than expected! As it is not so important on a slide guitar with exact intonation this works very well, if used on a regular strat the same intonation problems (we teleplayers overcome this by bending ) will occur.

There is no need for exact intonation when playing slide, you dont fret the notes very often. You get perfect intonation using the slide. Nationals and Dobros has a staight bridge so my strat is in good company
And thank you Dr Bob for reducing the size |

I was about to say the same thing goran.... slide is a 'feel' thing there are no rules...i have a piece of brass pipe i use but sometimes i'll just grab a an empty pint glass or a empty beer bottle for the same....also works well for the effect live.... ...
P.S ....+1 on the new saddle work ...excellent stuff very neat... |

When on the subject I also like to show you some pictures of the guitar, not just the bridge. This is a strat with parts from a lot of guitars, it was found in the 90s by a friend on a garage sale in the Los Angeles area. Originally it was really dirty and had no tuners. He brought it to Sweden to fix it but I talked him into selling it to me. The frets are really worn so there was just two solutions, refret or using as a slide guitar. As far as I know the body and pickguard is Fender ( a 70s quite heavy body), the neck is probably a Mighty Mite, the pickups are from a Tokai late 70s strat (manufactured by DiMarzio). The paintwork is really nice, and I had a lot of work cleaning it. As you can see the bridge is blocked (by me) as you dont need a trem when playing slide. All in all its a really great guiter for slide work.
