I've recently modded my DS1 and as I was carrying out the mod I noticed the LED wasnt working anymore. I've tested the LED and it works fine.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Thanks

It depends a bit on how old the DS-1 is. If there's a zener diode between + and the LED, check that it's ok. There's might also be a driver transistor for the LED that could be broken.

Do you have a schematic? The one on http://www.godiksennet.com/images/sch/DS1PG2.jpg is for the pre 1994 type so it might not match all DS-1s.

Doesn't the LED just read from one state (side) of the switching flip-flop, through a current-limiting resistor?

I've seen a few variations on the design. In some cases there's a transistor between the flipflop and the LED while in some cases there's just the resistor.

I don;t wish to insult your electronic skills, but;
Did you possibly put the LED in backwards?

ack! sometimes the obvious is painfully overlooked, in electronics.
