I am not a huge distortion fan. I normally prefer a mild to medium overdrive, but when I got interested in pedals, I wanted to check out distortion pedals, as well.
Eventually I bought an MT-2 second-hand, but I was put off by it in the beginning and it was all downhill from there, if you know what I mean.
Enter stinkfoot. I had my SD-1 modded by him before and the SD-1 Stinkfoot Plus has been on my board ever since. When he announced that he had a mod for the MT-2 ready, I sent it to him.
What I got back was a completely different pedal. The EQ is now usable to great effect and the nasally sound is completely gone. What I have now is a is, raspy, yet very tube-like distortion sound that works wonders in conjunction with my Les Paul. Via an extra switch I can also add considerably to the bottom end to the pedal.
At every setting, it retains clarity and note definition. This is a great pedal after modification by stinkfoot.
I was very content and did not plan on getting another distortion pedal, but the opportunity presented itself to get a Keeley-modded MT-2 for cheap and since the Keeley MT-2 is held in very high esteem on here, I wondered how my stinkfoot MT-2 would compare to it.
This is what I found out: The EQs are pretty much the same. Both are very usable and a definite improvement over the stock pedal.
The Keeley does have 3 basic settings which are described in detail on their website, and the description is pretty accurate, so there is no real need to go into detail there. Suffice it to say, the stock setting was decent, the triple diod setting over the top and the other one was the best. The stinkfoot pedal only has the bottom end boost, but it is very useful indeed. Regarding setting options, I think the pedals are equal to each other.
But these are all marginal criteria, when it comes to the overall sound of the pedals. Here, the stinkfoot pedal makes the Keeley pale in comparison. The stinkfoot has the raw, yet distinct, marshally sound that gets every tonal nuance across. It is thick, but still leaves the tone "air to breathe". The Keeley pedal on the other hand was always comparatively muddy, the settings basically only variations of the same muddy basic sound. Maybe it did not go well with my amps (Fender VibroChamp and Hiwatt DR103), but sounded very generic and lifeless compared to the stinkfoot MT-2.
I sold the Keeley MT-2 soon after and have been absolutely happy with my stinkfoot MT-2 ever since. This pedal has a lot of character and deserves to be mentioned in one breath with the Keeley MT-2, which I am not sure deserves all the hype that is surrounding it .
I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the subject and if there are any fellow MT-2 "stinkfeet" out there.
Cheers!

Unfortunately, not that I am aware of. I don't have the means to record some samples and I am not sure that my chops would do the pedal justice, either
I refuse to believe that I am the only one who has this pedal??? |

| That's quite a story ununtrium. I'm happy with my keeley modded mt-2 but I'm also interested if there are better mods, I would like to hear the indyguitarist for real, maybe I order it someday. |

Hi,
this is my first post in this forum - I just found it a few days ago and I like the bossarea-page and all the info - thanks for that! :-)
I a big fan of the MT-2 - I've been playing this pedal for about 17 years now and I always liked the sound. But what I am doing is playing it right into a power amp with no pre amp in between. I never liked it before an already cranked amp.
I have about 7 or 8 MT-2, some of them are modded - two modded ones are on the way to my house right now - and I am very anxious to play and to hear them!
I also have a Keeley MT-2 - and that one is my favourite! I didn't hear the Stinkfoot one (BTW: Stinkfoot, your page is GREAT! But I disagree with your way of stringing a guitar ), but when I read the description I think his mod is for people who don't like the stock MT-2, whereas the Keeley-mod is for people who like the stock MT-2 but are out for an improvement and like to have more versatility. There is also a MT-2 mod by Analogman. I listened to the soundfiles on his page and couldn't believe that it should be better - but that is where taste comes in. I like the stock MT-2 as it is - but the Keeley is an improvement. Then there are several mods for people who are unlucky with their MT-2s and like them to a different pedals.
That's just my opinion
Best wishes,
silverface. |

Hi everybody,
thanks for the kind welcoming!
@ssanyee: Of course the name is connected with Fender-amps - but not only. I just like the term "silverface" - it sounds cool somehow imho - I own 6 silverface amps and I also like their look
@sp-1:
I just read about the indygitarist-mod, but didn't hear it. The next think I am gonna do, is to mod a MT-2 myself. I already ordered a kit at Monte Allums.
Best wishes,
silverface. |

altho i don't have an mt-2 yet, its one of the pedals on my list to buy after the od-3, sd-1, bad monkey and probably a ts. imho it seems to be a popular pedal like the the ds-1 partly because it can be modded and there are a lot of mods around. |
