If it isn't resolved by then, I'll take another look at the symptoms tomorrow night after work.

ok i have read threw 3 pages of this,Did you happen to check to see if the led is good. Use it against a almost dead 9v battery, about 3 volts should work. I hear alot of talk about changing componets checking solder joints you could of wasted your time.

I've been looking at it for kelmaur and there are a few joints to be cleaned up. There is either a lifted pad, or a dry joint somewhere... we'll know more once the solder is removed and the board cleaned.

you can see that the R14 pad has been lifted/half burned off. the description of the solder beading on the leg of the resistor is consistent with the times i've dealt with lifted pads.

the LED should be fine, i bought about 50 of them from the same batch and have had 0 failures out of ~40 of them. testing them with a 9V will require one that is very nearly dead. if it's too strong it will burn out the LED.

i think i remember that being correct(lifted pad) because i rememeber asking my wife, which has an Elec Tech degree about it and she said it looked like to her that the pad was lifted on one side

ill get the pics of the joint on here tomorrow ( after i desolder the parts and clean up the pads)
