What paper-label pedals do people here have with a silver screw? Did the changeover happen at a different time for different models, or was it simply random? Is it more often than not a case of someone putting an SS on a pedal which originally had a BS - to raise the value on the collector market?
Is there really a way to guarantee the originality of a screw short of some NOS example (but even that could be faked..).
Oh the garbage I think about when I should be writing a scholarly paper.
Edit: examples
#078700: ebay link messed up, item # 140285019577
a brief discussion here: http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1255 -now I've never seen an SS SD-1 either..
PH-1r is no issue, as it was released ~9900, and SS lasted until the paper labels, it seems.
I have a CS-1, #0500, with a BS (determined here to be totally possible as original) - and my PH-1 (on deck) is ~#075500, also has a BS. Would I be remiss in putting an SS on either of these?? Is it wrong? Am I going to Boss hell , where all pots are plastic and treadles weak?
Any thoughts? More examples? Let's build this catalogue of variances. |

As you say, there's really no way to prove a screw's authenticity. I don't have any paper label pedals with silver screws but that doesn't prove anything either. Going by the serial number stats I've collected, it looks like the change happened at the same time as the serial number changed. There is however a lot less stats than what's needed to say anything for sure. |

I actually would never do that. But thanks for the tip..
If I were to transplant an SS around between pedals, it would be genuine, stripped off a pedal of lower value or worth.
I'm actually mostly interested in the event of the changeover between components, serial styles, etc. Functionality is actually secondary in this consideration - I want to see the differences laid bare before me. It's in this spirit that I want to see examples of paper-label SS pedals... do you have one to show??
