Found something by Mark Hammer One other thing you can do to make the unit a little more deadly is to add more gain. If you trace the path of the Gain control (a 200k pot), one end of it goes to a 1k resistor. Replace that 1k resistor with another resistor, anywhere from say 39k to 68k, whatever you have on hand. That will raise the gain of that stage from 202x to 270x (if you use a 68k resistor).
If your looking for the perfect metal sound then increase the gain going into the MT-2, but put it in the send return chain of an NS-2 or you'll get some crazy feed back... So use an NS-2 unless your going for that crazy screaming guitar sound...
When I record I use my NS-2 as a DI into the recorder from the send jack. I set the level going into the recorder so I get a nice hot signal and then send that hot signal back into the MT-2's input where it then goes into the NS-2's return jack. And of course the output of the NS-2 goes to the amp which then gives a no screaming very compressed metal sound When I need that sound that is...
I also like to mix the clean DI guitar in with the distorted amp too as it gives a fuller sound when using chords other than power cords...
I don't know how I ever lived without my NS-2 and MT-2 combination, but for live you could probably use a little mixer to increase the gain into your MT-2 and then mix in some clean signal at the same time. Just set the levels right... Hmm... I think I'll try that. Just thinking out loud here...
