Hi!
I've been looking round the web for some time and this is by far the best site about boss compact pedals.
I'm yet to buy my first boss pedal, but it didn't stop me from being a fan of those for quite a while. PH-2 is almost on it's way.
Unfortunately, I can't make up my mind over what distortion pedal to buy. Due to a lack of money, i can buy only one of these at the moment. So it has to be the one which can produce a variety of different sounds, from warm almost overdrive-like dist to thrash metal.I've eliminated all the ibanez-es, digithech-s and similar and narrowed my choice down to : ds1, ds2, os2 and mt2.
Can you guys help me decide?
Two main criteria are versatility and sound quality. |

I have 11 different Boss overdrive or distortion pedals, but unfortunately the DS-2 and OS-2 aren't among them (yet?). however, based on what you say you're looking for, the OS-2 is probably the only one that can give you a 'warm almost overdrive-like dist'. I don't know how the OS-2's distortion sounds quality-wise, though. I'm sure there's someone on this forum who has the OS-2 and can comment on how it sounds.
among your other 3 choices, I'd eliminate the DS-1 simply because the DS-2 offers a greater variety of distorted sounds. however, the MT-2 with its added low and sweepable midrange controls can give you everything from basic crunch to Megadeth-approved distortion to even a harsh fuzztone, and probably offers the greatest variety of distortion tones.
hope that helps; good luck with your search! |

Thanks! It did help, a bunch. Just as I assumed MT-2 and DS-2 are the most versatile. Now it's up to me to try them at the store and decide which one suits me best. Thanks, once more.
Anyone with the OS-2 here, people? |

I've got the OS-2 and I'm not really a fan of it. The overdrive isn't as good as the SD-1 or BD-2 and the distortion don't measure up to the DS-1 or DS-2.
I would go for the MT-2. Especially if you have a smaller combo amp as it does a good job of making these sound much bigger than they really are. It's not a good pedal for overdrive sounds though. |

| i agree with bossarea, i'd go for MT-2. I already own one and i've tried the pedal myself, it's sensationaaal. but since you're a beginner, be patient on turning those 6 knobs to find out exactly what each knob does.. just be patient, once you know how to work it out, you'll love the MT-2. it's very very very versatile. if you're a bit confused on how to set the sound you want, use the recommended setting that BOSS gave out in the MT-2 manual and start from there, you should be ok afterwards... once again, i'd go for the MT-2 |

Thanks for the advice. Although, I'm not a beginner with compact pedals. I just don't own boss' things, so I needed a piece of advice bout them. :) I appreciate your help. :) |
