Hello Boss Forum,
Riding high off the success of fixing the corral chorus (with the help of the members of the Boss Forum, thanks again  ) I bought this CH-1 �as is� off ebay thinking I could fix it. I had visions of replacing a blown out protection diode for 50 cents and away we go! When I opened up the case to find a surface mount PCB with components mangled beyond recognition all my grand plans went out the window. As you can see from the pics I�m sure there was quite a kerplosion when they plugged in the wrong AC adapter. Do you think other components besides the ones that are visably chared are damaged also? Is it worth trying to fix? I was thinking about trying to solder small gauge wire on one end of what is left of the traces to regular through hole components on the other end of the wire to try and fix this. The problem is I can�t find a schematic for the surface mount PCB version of the board to know what the values of the components should be that need to be replaced. Does anybody have a schematic or know what they should be? I noticed Laurie had some pics of the innards of a CH-1 on one of the other threads posted on the Boss Forum. Does this sound like a viable option or is there a better way?

It was part of a rather large archive zipfile file that was posted on freestompboxes a few months ago. Since it included stuff like the GT8 as well I think someone in a Boss service station "leaked".

BTW,
Do you know what is the best way to remove SMC? I'm a total newbee to the surface mount thing. Not that I know much about electronics anyway! I've modded 3 of my Boss pedals and repaired one CE-2 clone pedal, that is the extent of my electronic prowess |

| Use a soldering iron and tweezers to remove the burnt components. Clean everything up with desoldering braid and isopropyl alcohol (or if not available, aceton). When everything is cleaned up you can start to determine what went where,what is damaged and how to fix it in the best possible way. |

Thanks for the tip Dirk. I have another question, on the pictures above you can see these little white circular pads on both sides of the PCB. Is that an electrical connection point from one side of the board to the other? Is the white pad and insulator?

are there anymore like this out there to be obtained for other Boss pedals as well...or is this the company stuff? |
