Paisleyfender's adventures with the CE-3 got me thinking -- do we have room here for a Boss schematic / service manual library of sorts? All of us who have them could contribute, and it would save folks a lot of time searching.
I have original hardcopies of the MIJ DS-1 and BF-2 service manuals that I could scan and send in.
Do we get into copyright trouble with Roland here?

| It's the copyright violation that has stopped me from implementing this already. It should be ok to link to schematics elsewhere but Boss has already told me that they didn't want to see any catalog scans (maybe I shouldn't have asked) here so I have decided not to provoke them. |

Okay; will stick to providing links then.
It's a shame that the service information for the older, discontinued pedals at least couldn't be put out into the public domain.
And then look at all of the schematic/manual sellers online now -- like the Ranger Audio one I pointed to for the CE-3 -- a lot of these are folks who are selling copies of copyrighted information, not originals (and I'll bet that Roland isn't being reimbursed for any of it).
I ran into this myself with a recently acquired Tektronix 453 oscilloscope -- I ordered a service manual through eBay, which was a guy taking money for putting public domain information (it was an old military publication) on CD-R. Rather than take it on the chin (or somewhere else) a second time, I dug persistently and found a link for the instruction manual. So I ended up paying for a poorly scanned 18Mb service manual, but got a beautifully scanned 75Mb instruction manual for free.

Hello Bossarea, stahlhart,
I totally agree with you! It is really a shame and of course, at least the discontinued pedals schematic drawings availability should be supported! Also I agree with Bossarea if the regulation is this.
Due to this facts above lets have our own interactive database out of Bossarea homepage!
My boss pedals schematic drawing collection is:
AC-2, BD-2, BF-2, CE-1, CE-2, CE-2B, CE-3, CH-1, CS-1, CS-2, DC-2, DD-2/3, DF-2, DM-2, DS-1, DS-2, FA-1, FT-2, FZ-2, GE-7, HF-2, HM-2, HM-3, MD-2, MT-2, MZ-2, NF-1, NS-2, OC-2, OD-1, OD-2, OD-3, OS-2, PH-1, PH-2, PH-3, PQ-4, PW-2, RV-3, SD-1, SD-2, SG-1, SP-1, TR-2, TW-1, VB-2, XT-2
If you need any of them just mention it and I will send you!
And of course if you recognise that you have those what are not visible above then please send me!
Hope this action is not disagreed with any law!
cheers

Hi ssanyee & Guys
That's a really nice collection.
Are they just the schematics, or are they the actual service manuals?
Regards Dr. Bob |

Is it still a copyright violation if just the text of the service notes its copied? For example the 'Modification of the LED Drive Circuit' from older OD-1 models?

In my opinion it can be problem; you know: "...all rights reserved..." - means fully of partly, who knows... Better to be on the safe side! I guess it is not prohibited that the forum members exchanging info/schematics/manuals to each other using this forum but not to present on it. To aviod any kind of incovenience it was my idea to send info anybody using private mail and not by public surface!
Christo, Just mention me, if you need this info (OD-1 LED) I can send you! |

That was just an example of the stuff people might find useful. Or any other perative info on the service notes. I could see schematics not being a problem, anyone could trace them out, but some of the other info on the service notes might be deemed confidental, like the correct sine wave on an occiliscope.

Hi ssanyee
I will admit, I would be interested in some of those. And thank you for making the offer open to all of us.

Hi DeFrag, my friend,
Really sorry for that but my mail address what is behind my profile here is my company mail address! Because currently I'm on holiday since beginning of December, so I could not see it! If you would be so kind please post me again to my private mail address: ssanyee@freemail.hu It is referring to Dr. Bob and to bossFan intrests as well!
An off topic information: today I catched my first SG-1 in german e-bay: http://cgi.ebay.de/BOSS-SG-1-Slow-Gear-1980-Made-in-Japan-Silver-Screw_W0QQitemZ140192514490QQihZ004QQcategoryZ46667QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
...so it will be my 61st piece (58th kind of) boss compact pedal, so I'm really, really happy... Wish You Happy New Year dear all of you guys!!!
