Quite a few Gretsch players are enamored with this amp. It also comes in a piggyback version with a head and 112 cabinet.
Looking forward to a review(we know you're gonna sneak it in... ) |

| Having a switchable output is brilliant. 4W for playing load and 1/4W when people are sleeping. Good price too (about 190 in the UK). |

Hi Goran & Guys
Nice amp.
I really like the 3 stages of switchable output power. Are there any Schematics of what method VOX use to get the different power levels.
The audio demos are very good as well.
it will be interesting to here how it compares to your other small low power amps.
Regards Dr. Bob

Looks like a home studio amp. Could it be used live with the cabinet version? What's its name? (in USD or Euro please) |

Very tempted by this as a new practice amp, particularly head and cab version, ohhh gas. |

Well I bought it! Told my wife it was a friend at my job that quit playing and was willing to sell it for a third of the price, it was OK as she liked the look of it (me too...) Stock tubes (Sovtek 12AX7WA and Sovtek EL84) sounded a bit harsh and undynamik so I quickly changed to a NOS Ultron 12AX7 and a J/J EL84. The result was much better, of course. To change the tubes I had to loosen about 20 screws.... this one has a closed back. And it sure gets hot when playing for a while. The speaker, a Celstion 10", sound vey good. The whole amp sounds really good, on par with my heavely modded Epi Valve Jr. The OT looks big and sturdy and the build quality (Vietnam) excelent. I suspect that need to be a litle more capacitors in the power supply for more punch, but its OK stock. I really like the sound of this amp, cleans are great and crunch too. Distorted tones are fine too but i prefer pedal distortion in a cruched tube amp. Bass is great for such a small amp, not too much mids also. The sound is not purely voxy, its more like a combination of Fender and Vox, I like that a lot. The max volume is very high, nothing for apartments... but here the attenuator comes in handy. Swichable between 4, 2 and 1/4 watts, its contructed of power resistors. You loose a little dynamics and treble in the 1/4W setting, butt it can be compensated with the tone control. Great sounds with both a strat and a Les Paul, but you need a reverb or delay to make it shine. Very pedal friendly. The only bad thing as far as I know now is the difficulty to change tubes (all the screws) and that ther is too little ventilation, just like there is on a VOX AC30. It eats Ibanez Valbee, an unmodded Epi V Jr and Fender Chamoion 600 for breakfast! Highly recommended!
