Does the new AC adaptor that works with the current DS-1 work with the old MIJ DS-1? I just bought a vintage one and I dont want it to like short circuit if i plug it in.
What i was wondering about is why Boss produced a 9v aca adapter? i got one with my latest pedals as the're all ACA powered pedals but: if the pedal regulates the power from a 12v adapter down to 9v it will regulate the power from a 9v adapter to something around 7v and your pedal will be underpowered, or am i missing something?
The PSA adapter has always been 9vDC (regulated), and will work with all post 1997 Boss pedals. If you want to power a pre 1997 ACA pedal (such as an older DS-1), you need 12 volts DC. However, if you run it in a daisy chain with "normal" pedals, it will work fine from 9vDC.
The ACA adapter used to be 12 volts DC (unregulated), and it seems that Boss changed it to 9 volts DC (unregulated) in 1997, at the same time they remodeled the ACA pedals to work with a 9vDC source (and started slapping "PSA" stickers on them).
It doesn't make sense - there's no real market for an unregulated 9vDC adapter (as the post 1997 ACA pedals are actually marked "PSA" and works fine with a regulated 9vDC source). And now there's no option for people who want to run their older ACA pedals the way they were designed... Someone at Boss failed to think this one through, I'd say. The only reason I can think of is that they didn't want people to use a 12vDC adapter for the pedals that only need 9 (DS-1 etc post 1997). But then it'd have made more sense to simply discontinue the ACA adapter. Changing it to 9 volts is simply stupid.
