Have anybody been making experiments to get a close reproduction of the Uni Vibe sound from one or two Boss pedals, Boss PW-10 excluded? Theoretically it should work with a chorus and a phaser in series, I have tested it, but no, not really good. But this can depend on settings of the respective pedal. The closest I have come is by using DC-3, but not really satifying.

maybe inject a little light vibrato alongside the DC-3? The dimension series tends to lack that pitch-wavering goodness (which in many apps is the best sound anyway)..

| A univibe is a phaser with less stages. So maybe a subtle PH-x something. |

No I donīt think itīs that easy, and I have heard that Uni Vibe is a phaser before. But I have all Boss phasers and they sure donīt sound like an Uni Vibe. The closest phaser (of the ones I have used) for an Uni Vibe-like sounds is EH Small Stone |

I saw in the last few months where you can use a CE-5 to approximate the Vibrato which is cool but not relevant to this topic (as posted by mikkejohansson.
"...the idea is to "turn off" the dry signal and only get the "chorus/vibrato"-signal. The CE-5 apparently feeds the dry thorugh one side and the effects signal thorugh the other side when used in stereo. So the "easy" mod is to plug an "empty" jack plug into one of the jacks and then the vibrato signal should sound out the other..."
Which makes me wonder if a CE-5 in conjunction with some other pedal (DM-2 perhaps?) to sound like a UniVibe.

Yep i agree...maybe a TR-2 on a slow, less agressive wave setting..? or possibly a subtle phaser like the PH-1..?i tried something similar with my CE-2/TR-2 set full for a fast leslie effect for a while,it was the closest i came with my Boss pedals to getting anyway near the fast sound of my Dynacord CLS-22..i've never had a real Uni-vibe but from what i can hear of it in recordings etc...the slow speed setting on the Dynacord is similar (which i think the original univibe was based on,the slow speed setting of a Leslie speaker)...defo has that swirly Phaser/Chorus thing going on in slow mode....thats one of the main reasons i re-introduced my rack into my gig rig,to keep the Leslie fast /slow sounds within my reach on a gig ....... |

My PH-1r on a fast rate/low depth/res off comes pretty close to that Nazareth "Love Hurts" guitar tone, with some crunchy sound from my amp.
Another very good pedal is the H&K Rotosphere, but they sell for abominal high prices on Ebay.
A good sample of the pedal is used on the clean sound in the intro of this song (from 0:28):

Well, the Uni-V setting on the RT-20 sounds very nice to me (as long as the pedal's overdrive stays on zero). Through a good tube amp with a Strat I can definitely get the Jimi-sound. A lot of people seem to think of it as a poor imitation of the Uni-vibe effect, but I feel none of the suggestions (pedal combinations and such) I have read on this board come any closer to the real Uni-V effect. |

In terms of the circuit, a univibe is a four stage phaser: I'm not sure about the PH-1/PH-1r, but I believe the PH-2 is an 8 stage (10 stage with two stages not involved in phasing), and the PH-3 has modes which emulate 4, 8, 10 and 12 stages but being digital, cannot replicate this sound accurately.
The key difference between a standard phaser and univibe is outlined here:

You can mod a smallstone to make it sound vaguely like a univibe (I had mine modded) - Not sure i'd want to do it to a mint condition PH-1, though...

Thanks for that link, very useful information, tempted to try some reversible changes to my beaten up PH-1 sometime.
BTW there is a boxed Chicken Salad on eBay UK at the moment if anyone's interested.
