Hello Boss fans !

Just a question for those who have the two: who is the best ?

what are the REAL differences...

I'm asking this question because I don't have any of them (a future purchase I hope...) and was asking if COSM is better in this field (acoustic modelisation of course!)

Thanks !

I tested AC-3 in a store with both Hums and S-coils and I didnt get that accurate acustic sound that I get with my AC-2 that I have at home. I guess it could have to do with a different amplifier used at the store. I have read in a Swedish guitar magazine that "AC-3 is an improvement over AC-2" so I guess that a side by side test is needed.

What I lack in the AC-2 is that the volume with the effect on is very low. However, this seems to be the case also with AC-3. At least from an answer I got when I posted a question here a year ago. I run my AC-2 output 2 into a separate input of my amp (I got line in and mic in) and I found that the mic in also make humbuckers sound acustic which is never the case on the normal guitar input of the amp (or the line in). Maybe hooking it into a mixer (PA full range system) will make a differance.

If I would try them side by side and find AC-3 as good as AC-2 soundvise I will consider upgrading for the reverb as I use the unit for channel switching (dirty electric - clean acustic).

Finally: I do get a very close to acustic sound from the AC-2 and any difference is hidden if you have e.g. a drum machine (I use RC-2).

And the AC2, is it digital or analog?

Hi Guys.

A couple of months ago, when G3 (Satriani- Vai - Petrucci) toured Australia, my sons & one of my friends went to see them play here in Melbourne on both nights.
becuse of other commitments, I did not attend.

One of the many highlights, was when Vai was doing a typical speed sweep riff, & then the band dropped in volume.
Vai switched in an Acoustic simulator, and Vai basically did an acoustic chords & picking solo.

This acoustic emulation, blew my son & my best friend away, the emulation was so realistic.

Does anyone here know, what Vai may have used?
My mate was raving about it for days, he wanted me to find out, as he wanted to get, whatever Vai used.

Was it an AC-2 AC-3, or maybe something more fancy, perhaps the COSM VG-8?

Maybe one of you guys went to the concert, or have heard what Vai is using.

BTW, don't ask me, what song was Vai & the band were playing.

Is there a site with Via's current touring set up - or pics?

Regards Dr. Bob

hi dr. bob.

i seen a picture og Vai current setup and it doenst look to me like he uses any boss Acoustic simulation. He used DS-1 and Ibanez TS-9, and a danish board called TC electronic G-system multi effect board which i know has a build in acoustic effect. Its the best multi board around and it surely costs alot too... Anyway its just what i know hope you find it useful. you can eventually check out their site! Regards, bossman

Good question. I have wondered about this myself. I have thought about picking one up a few times, but didn't know which one is better.

I have both and I like the AC-3 better because of the reverb knob. Respect that opinion for what it is worth... I'm well into the night...

The AC-3 is COSM. I don't think the AC-2 is analog but it isn't COSM.

I heard that the Acoustic Simulators are better with single coils. The AC-3 does have a sweet spot for a humbucker though.

I only had AC-2 and all I can say is it was good. And yes, it is analog. Thats why I chose it over its COSM successor.
