Hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. I've been lurking for a while, and have found a lot of really helpful information here. I'm hoping someone may be able to enlighten me in regards to a purchase I just made.
I bought a new DD-20 on Amazon.com from a seller called HQ Pro Audio. The pedal arrived in great shape, everything was in the box which should have been (manual, registration card, etc.), and it seems to be working great. The unusual thing about it is that there is no serial number on the pedal. Obviously, the concern is that I won't be able to get warranty service on a pedal that doesn't have a serial number. The pedal was represented as being new on Amazon.com, and it does appear to be in new condition. So I'm a little perplexed as to why there is no serial number.
I noticed that HQ Pro Audio is also a seller on eBay, and their "About My Store" page there indicates the items they are selling on eBay do not have factory warranties because they were "bought directly on a liquidation style buy." They didn't say anything about that on Amazon, but now I'm wondering if that's why my pedal doesn't have a serial number.
Has anyone dealt with this seller before or had a similar experience with a unit which has no serial number? I got a good deal on the pedal ($179.99 + $6.10 shipping), so I'm not inclined to send it back, especially since Boss pedals are normally very reliable (my trusty OD-1 has been going strong for 25+ years now). Any input on this would be appreciated.
If you want to look for yourself, here's a link to the HQ Pro Audio storefront on Amazon: HQPROAUDIO Storefront
Here's a link to their eBay store: eBay Store - hqproaudio
Sorry for the long first post. Thanks for your help!

Hi sdb475
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
I hope you manage to sort out the confusion.
On a similar topic. There are some other companies that sell evilbay, that remove (CUT) the bar codes off the boxes - but do not mention this fact until you receive the goods & complain.

Hi sdb475 and welcome to the forum.
I small a rat here. Why would the serial numbers be removed because they bought their stock through a liquidation sale? It is common to see goods like this being marked in different ways but removing the serial number voids Roland's 5 year warranty.
I don't know anything about liquidation sales. I imagine they buy the stock from a company that's gone bust. Is that right? I didn't think the manufacturer's warranty would stop applying in that case as long as the items are still unused but I could be wrong. |

I've heard of people removing serial numbers from stolen pedals before so that it was harder to track back to the owner in case the owner is looking for it.
Just a thought. |

Removing serial numbers and not telling you is a misrepresentation. Your options are a) send the pedal back for refund b) keep it and hope the pedal doesn't break within the 5 years.
if b) you should google around failures of the DD-20 and what kind of issues peeps have had with them, and what it cost, and if the difference in price would pay for a repair.
Peeling serial numbers off mesns the seller either has something to hide about the origin of the pedal and is just stupid. If the seller is not an authorized boss seller, you would have a tough time getting warrany work anyways as boss could refuse coverage is it was not sold by its authorized network. |
