Afternoon all; Wondering if anyone had ever experienced problems with Boss pedals where the light still turns on and off when you press the pedal but is permanently in bypass mode (ie effect does nothing) both of these delays do just that; leading me to think maybe its the same fault in both perhaps (wishful thinking I know)
Don't know the hisory of either pedal; I'm assuming (hoping) may be a case of wrong power supply connected - is there something in the circuit for protection if this happens?
I've got absolutely no electrical knowledge at all; but I do have one of those multimeter things with a black and red probe that presumably I can measure stuff with - can anyone steer me in the right direction before I start poking it with probes and wrestling with wiring diagrams
Anyone else had this problem before? I'd be most grateful for any advice anyone can offer :)
Sounds like you have lost the delay signal on both pedals. The Boss switching never shuts off the dry signal it just adds the delay signal when you step on the pedal. So you have already determined that the problem is in the delay signal path in both pedals. The two pedals have different design so it is unlikely to be the same fault in both. Its not a power supply issue because the pedals pass the dry signal. The DD-3 does have a 5 volt regulator that can fail but you will need to be able to use a soldering iron to remove/replace it. If I could make a suggestion that you enlist help from someone with experience in repairs to help you or find a qualified tech to repair the pedals for you? The DM-3 is definitely worth the investment to have repaired and calibrated.
Hello mate thanks for the advice; I can just about operate a soldering iron; I've managed to replace a few componants on other pedals thus far so I'd definately be prepared to have a go -
Where can I find this 5v regulator on the DD-3? Could this cause such a problem?
Looking inside the DD-3 it looks like a bit of a dogs dinner; I've repaired a couple of solder joints that have broken and fallen off; still no joy though. I notice this DD-3 doesn't seem to have the same bit of foil inside it as other ones I've worked on; dunno if this should be present or not.
I appreciate that it probably would have to go to an expert to get it repaired properly; however its not going to happen realistically as I can't afford it and if I can't fix it myself I'll probably just use it for parts or something, so nothing ventured, nothing gained basically......
I would be really grateful for even the slightest morsel of advice anyone could offer to steer me in the right direction, has this fault happened to anyone else before?
here is a picture of the DD-3 board if this helps at all (sorry not a very good one)
