The new BOSS power supply with the "S" in the name is a switched (digital) power supply.
I think it was said that these digital power supplies are not the best ones for use especially with overdrive and distortion pedals, because of high frequency modulation leading to unpleasant high harmonics.
Does anybody know more about this?

I haven't heard much about ill effects when used with distortion/overdrive pedals, but I know for a fact that switching type supplies can cause a high pitched whining noise with digital and/or time-based effects (reverb, delay, chorus etc). But I don't know if the PSA-120S has extra stuff added to prevent this (there's something attached to the power supply cord, that other switching type adapters don't have) or not.

For me, the whining noise (I have pedals that suffer from it) is enough to make me give any switching type supply a wide berth... and there are so many other options out there these days, that I really don't feel the need to try the PSA-S.
