I would highly recommend MIJ Tokai's and early Greco's and Orville's. Better quality than most standard Gibsons, but for only a fraction of Gibson prices.
+1 on the tokai's.....i'm not too familar with the greco's and the orvilles...i thought the orvilles were a japan only issue and not rest of the world....??..i can recommend the yamaha SG series...i have the 2000s and it's a very high spec guitar that would easily mix with any les paul...in fact i've been listening to a little bit too much robben ford lately so this is going with me to the gig tonight..... ...i've already changed the strings........... ...........
Yeah, I love the Tokai's..I have a Love Rock model and a '76 Yamaha SG that's great too..Here are some pics I dug up:

Sweet... nice to see a fellow yamaha SG player.... the tokai looks really nice as well....as for the amp......... is it a 'piggyback' bassman.....?? i read online on another site that if your leaving the yamaha in it's case for a long time (..ie months on end ) that the scratchplate is a suspect in causing damage to the finish of the guitar, seemingly it gives off some sort of fume or gas if left in a tight space as in a guitar case,i took mine off years ago purely for cosmetic reasons,i only read this the other day..if i can find the link back to the site i will post it..... Krall did your SG come with it's original case and does it have the coil taps.....??.....

The amp is an all original '63 Bassman, 6G6-B circuit.Still has the Tung Sol 5881 power tubes in it! Cab has original Oxfords in exc. condition. (I can post clearer close up shots if you guys want to see them)
I bought the Yamaha SG500 around '88 and it came with a non-original hard shell case, which I still have. This guitar (the SG500 model) does not have the coil tap capability. |

Yes true, okay have at the Ibanez Performer, the series started in 1978, they are Ibanez their idea of a Les Paul at a modest price [in the late 70s.....] they even have a body contour, so really they are there own slant on the LP guitar. Here is a link to them:
http://www.break-even.org/ibanez/1978/perf.htm
I have tested on against a recent Epiphone, and they sounded the same. I prefered the feel of the Ibanez. Not many people know about these guitars, you do not see them often but if you see one it is well worth to see if you can get it. |

Nice one goran..... did you change some of the chrome..the control plate and the bridge as well....??.....
visserman....those ibanez 'lawsuit' les pauls look really nice..the headstock looks like the one off the metheny and the benson jazz guitars... ..no disrepect intended to anyone but i would imagine they are better made guitars than the modern epiphone les pauls..the PF 300 AM really caught my eye..these are the sort of guitars you could get in a bargain sale for a good price 'cause they aren't very well known about...
I posted about my friends son who is 'sitting in' for me while i'm on holidays..he told me he got a original strat plus in Cash Converters for 500 euro... and he also told me about another player we both know who got a '64 Gibson ES335 for 3000 euro..... i don't know much about the value of vintage gibsons but i know this was a steal......the great thing about it is he uses it on gigs and told my friends son, that he will never sell it..... .... |

I actually have one for 8 days of the week now, or 7 Telecasters and 1 Esquire Anyways, here's #8 as featured in another thread, but then I figured I should add it to this one too...
Yeah, I know, like I needed another Telecaster...but this SX STL50 P90 PBU has a P90 in the neck, and I didn't have one of those PU configs. The pickguard and P90 cover are not stock. It came with a black PG and cream P90 cover, and I changed it to a pearl guard and plastic chrome-finish P90 cover, but it looks black in the pics...
