A certain Mr Seymour Duncan.

I recenly bought a Seymour Duncan "Invader" pickup for my Gibson 335 style guitar (Its actually an Aria) and man what a sound!

I played it into a mates Fender 4x10 Blues deville 60W valve amp.

It provided beautiful overdrive to the amp giving just the right amount of rock sound with the guitar turned up to about 8 on the vol. AND THATS ON THE CLEAN CHANNEL.

Turning down to 3 gives you plenty of headroom at most volumes.

Go to the dirty channel and this monster of a pickup just absolutely goes off.

If your into Hard rock or generally want big time OD this is your pickup.

If anyone else is into pickups please... chime in.

I have good experiences with Seymore Duncan pups too. I haven't tried the Invader but I used some bluesbuckers for a while that sounded awesome.

Which Aria model is it? Made in Japan or Korea? The pickups in the old Japan models were really good. They're usually stamped MMK plus some number.

Unfortunatelly its a korean model.

The rathole forum site is actually where I found this forum link.

The pickups were Ok But some customising of the wiring has lead to some good and bad side effects on the tone of the guitar. Its a bit of a project guitar now with a piezo pickup for a Tune-o-matic bridge.

personally, I swear by Seymour Duncan pickups: single coils (vintage staggered pickups sound like Leo's originals), single-coil sized humbuckers (hot rails for strat -- beware, if you hate midrange you'll hate this pickup), and the full-sized JB humbucker (high output without being harsh). these days, unless it's an OEM pickup (e.g., a Fender replacement pickup for a Fender guitar), I won't even consider other pickup manufacturers. death before dimarzio!

I like to use Duncans for some stuff, and EMG's for other stuff. That way I get the best of both worlds, active and passive.

my only experience with EMGs has been their budget 'select' passive series, and those pickups sound like a upc bar code -- very generic. on the other hand, the active EMGs have an excellent reputation (Metallica, Zakk Wylde, and countless other folks swear by them), but I'll never use them in my guitars. the best line I've heard is that active pickups create as many problems as they solve, and if you play out, they also put you at the mercy of a dead battery in the middle of a set. maybe I'd someday buy a guitar that came with active EMGs, but I just don't trust my guitar electronics skills enough to try installing high-impedence active pickups in one.

Speaking of Seymour Duncan can anyone suggest a good High output humbucking pickup for a bridge slot, and I need a neck pickup that is nice and bright and isn't muddy (my main guitar is an Ibanez GAX 70, and I use dean markley blue steel 11-52 tuned down to D or drop C). any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Go a Burst-Bucker for an easier going high output pickup.

Deffinately an Invader for the ultimate in saturated tone.
I'm talking the Tom Delonge Blink 182 tone.

While i really like punk, I just can't stand Tom Delong, Blink-182, or his tone (I think it's his ego, and his attitude that puts me off about him). What about the Duncan Distortion pickup? Anyone try it?

As much as I hsould really start a new thread for this... The Bare Knuckle Pickup from the UK look really good. I cant give you a fair assessment yet but I will when I get back from my honeymoon in November.

I'm gonna get about 3 sets and try to mix end match em till I get something i like. I'll let you know.
