Everyone must have that one effect they dislike. That one effect pedal that rarely sees the light of day... The one you have at the bottom of your cuboard... The one that makes a sound so awful, dull, annoying or bland so much you want to throw it under a bus? I wont believe anyone who says they like every effect out there
OK mine is a real easy one... Wicka wah wah wicki wah wicki wah wah |

I'm not a wah fan either...in fact, I've never owned one.
Don't care for phase shifting either...in the late '70s/early '80s you heard it on so much stuff I just got to where I couldn't stand it...kinda like chorus later in the 1980s, it was on everything! (although I can still handle chorus ) |

I've never been a big fan of flangers. But I really dig the EH Electric Mistress switched to filter with no sweep. That sounds sweet! Oh yeah, forgot the talk box, I wouldn't even buy one of those! |

Any distortion pedal with "Metal" in the name. I never heard any metal guitarist with higain sounds, sound like aforementioned pedals.
I'm not fond of autowah's either. |

Yo Dirk, you should try the Ibanez Metal Screamer and the Super Metal SM9, both amazing blues/rock pedals made by Maxon in the mid 80's They sound amazing! |

| I can't think of any that I hate. Some I like better than others. Delay, reverb and compression spend the most time in my chain though by far. |

Autowahs, noisegates, octavers and i can't really see the need for something like a slow gear when i can do volume swells with my guitars volume control and do octaves with my fingers, you can even get a sort of wah effect with the strat and the five way switch and by using the tone controls as well if you want but i normally use a crybaby for that....i think SG-1/OC-2 sort of effects take away from the player learning these skills with the guitar. ... sort of gone off EQ's for electric guitar as well...i don't hate the others but i don't use them... all i hate are noisegates, they kill the natural interaction between the guitar and the amp.... |

What up FRANZONI, It depends on the type of music your pla ying with noise gates. I mean if your playing Pantera/Megadeath or even new BFMV stuff it's a nessecity. One I use is the Rocktron Hush the Pedal, it's got A/B thresholds and is the only way I can get those quick fire on-off chords. I have to agree on the SG-1 and OC-2 not being needed, I only pull em out now and again for fun! |

Noisegates I'm a big +1 with Franzoni there.
I've never used one live on stage - who the hell is going to notice or care about a bit of hiss when you have a 5 piece rock band belting it out at full pelt? I think it makes the attack sound artificial and less organic. I'm pretty old school and to me, a valve amp that hisses and grumbles at me reassures me that it's working properly!
Besides our drummers kit rattles and resonates all the time and no noise gate on the planet will tame him

Maybe for super hi-gain amps you need one.. but for more 'old skool' players like me and The_Doc we don't ..as Doc pointed out in the middle of a band going full tilt it's not really needed and i like to be able to get some feedback from the amp now and again ..i find noisegates kill that and the natural sustain from the amp as well... |
