Yes Bill is a very good player, orginial ideas and always on the look out for new things to try out.
The older Bebop Delux music may have aged a bit. I also feel a lot of the music from that period borrowed of players who were more well-know, people like Hendrix, Talking Heads etc. Still there is a lot of good stuff there.
Showing your age? Not sure, I feel people like Bill [and Fripp and Belew] are not age-bound. Anyone who has been playing for a long time will fine out about the better players, people who push bounderies and try for going somewhere else. Once people have their Rockshops together they may want to venture out to something else. I myself have always been interested in the conventional and more obscure music at the same time. It is a contineous search and there is so much joy and inspiration to be found. |

I must admit, I can't comment on his newer material. I was just listening to some of my Be Bop Deluxe albums the other day and I thought I'd pose this question. see what others thought of him as a player and the sorts of sounds he used. A lot of it is pretty dated now, but if it sounds '80s maybe I can say he was ahead of his time, since the be Bop Deluxe heyday was the early/ mid '70s. (I think their best album is Sunburst Finish). Good comments Visserman, and I agree with you re: Fripp and Belew, also. |
