I've never used Wah pedals, though I just got a lovely vintage nameless Wau Wau Fuzz, (though often labelled 'Selmer', 'Bruno', 'Elk' and I believe 'Ibanez').
Now here's the question, is it normal that the 'wah' sound starts with a 'flat foot' and 'opens up' as your HEEL goes DOWN?
Does that make any sense?
Have I reached the age of 42 thinking mistakenly that they normally worked the other way round?  |

If you've had success with it the other way, who cares what everyone else does, as long as it sounds good. You know what I mean, just cause everyone else puts there pants on 1 leg at a time, if you can do both at once, don't worry what others are doing. I recall seeing a guitarist in a metal band when I was younger who used his Dunlop wah pedal backwards, turning on with the heel instead of toes, and unless you noticed the roadie plugging it up at the beginning of the set (like I did), you would never know he had an "unusual" wah technique. |

It's a little hard to understand. Does the heel really go down? On my crybaby the toes go down while the heel stays in the same place.
Anyway, with the pedal open you normally get the "w" sound which then turns into the "au" sound as the pedal goes down.

Mine does the opposite. 
(And there really should be a CHOCKA-CHAK-CHAK pedal on the market!) |

by the sounds of it maybe someone has switched the side that the potentiometer is on? i guess opening it up would give away any mods. |

I did this to a crybaby one time when the pot went..i replaced the pot with a maplins one of the same value but must of wired it in reverse..or maybe pots for wah pedals taper the other way around..?? anyway i used it far a while 'cause i was too lazy(when i was younger and less bothered about my gear)to open it up again and see why... the bass player gave me his crybaby soon after 'cause he got bored with it and thats the one i still use to this day...i'm sure one of our more technically minded forumites will answer this one better..it might be only a question of reversing the wires on the pot tags if you want normal operation.....BTW orginal dunlop pots are fairly expensive..they were looking for �27 in a shop in dublin and that was about ten years ago... thats why i went to maplins...i got one for about �2.....original parts for a wah pedal like yours might be next to impossible to find in good working order bro'..if the pot has been changed..... |
