Nice save

I've read as much as I can & everyone seems tickled with these amps. I can't wait until vendor stock reaches positive levels.

Ok, FINALLY got the Blackheart combo amp.. UPS was breakin' mah balls. I've only played with it for about 15 minutes & must say that even though it doesn't seem to have much gain, it is definately worth the dough. Great tone, effective 3-band EQ, deep sound from the 12" Eminence. Its the ultimate bedroom/recording amp for the money. I'm a bit lit from drinkin' but I'm impressed with the Blackheart. Its no Orange Tiny Terror of course but it is in fact 3 times cheaper & certainly a nice addition that beats the pants off of the Epiphone Jr.

Congratulations DeFrag
How much more expensive than the Jr. Is the Blackheart?

Just off topic for a moment.
I fired up my new (NOS) Electro Harmonix twin tube English Muff'n this afternoon.
Sweet makes my old Fender sound a bit like the old JCM800's.

The price is equal to the Epiphone Jr. half-stack.
The Blackheart head is only $150, the cab is $100, or the combo is $250.. so either way you look at it.

Full 3-band EQ, triode/pentode switch.. man what a dream.

ROT: That's cool. I sure need to try some EH someday. I found my LPB-2 & should get some pics soon for you to help component test the problem. Its a waaay simple circuit.

Hi DeFrag
Would you know if they ship to the land of Oz?
Or if they might have a dealer out here?
That's a really nice looking Amp & set up.

ROT - send the (HiRes) pics of your LPB-2 - I have built & repaired a few LPB-1's..
PM me, if your ISP isn't still blacklisting my OPTUS ISP.

Don't know, if you have seen? EHx have a twin tube LPB-something in their new line up.

Regards Dr. Bob

Their website has a zipcode search so they may only ship US. Zzounds carries the Blackheart line, as does SameDayMusic, & Musician's Friend.

I'll check EH for a new LPB, tks. But if you remember, I'd like to get this one worky because it belonged to my dead cousin. I just gotta get off my ass & get going on it. First things first though.. I had to order a few 4PDT switches for switching my new Class-As into respective cabs. Btw, those 4P3T switches are f'n weird but certainly applicable.

I have a question, The Marshall cab I have [1960 4x12] Handles 300watts [I think] and it can be used in stereo, 150 watts each side at 8 ohms. I have a Crate Blue Voodoo 120watt head. Could I buy a Black Heart head and run each head at the same time, on the two separate sides of the same cab?

I don't see why not as your basically using the stereo cab like two 2x12's and once you can match the impedences up with both amps..the only obvious things is the danger of the switch going to mono operation which i don't think would be too healthy for either amp.... and sometimes you can get one amp running out of phase with the other in a two amp setup..i.e one of the amps will sound very thin and flat even though it's working ok...so the fact your using both through the same cab might be more prone to this but i'm not 100% sure...maybe a quick email to a marshall rep or main dealer might be the way to go......

Thanks, I thought it would be ok also. I just wanted to make sure. I know that it can cause phase problems so I'm going to use a ART TUBE Preamp on the Blackheart because it has phase reverse.

I just got one of the Blackheart heads. Everything seems fine other than a little bit of movement on the jacks and the tubes are very lifeless. I have some JJ and EH tubes that I plan on putting in. It seems alright, but just doesn't have the kick my Epi VJ head has, though I think that'll be changed with tubes. And the EQ is messing me up since I'm used to the Epi VJs lack of EQ, but overall for the price, doesn't seem like a bad deal. It seems bright on the 5 watt setting and has some nice darkness in the 3 watt mode. I have only had it for one day, so this is just my first impressions of the amp.

The Blackheart is indeed a bit mild. Cranked, it just starts to break up.. which for my purpose makes for an outstanding clean amp complement to my gritty Orange Tiny Terror. The other Blackheart models look very interesting & I agree.. for the price, they make fine Class-As.

I just changed the tubes, which was more of a pain in the arse than I thought it would be. I guess the main flaw was after taking all the screws out of the back panel, it still would not move! I ended up having to pry the thing open, and the reason why it would not move is because they used too much adhesive on the tolex for the back cover, and it leaked out and stuck to the head. That and the 12ax7 cover shield seems kind of odd. I changed out the no name 12ax7 for an EH and the no name el84 for a JJ and it improved the amp dramatically. Improved tone and sound, so the amp sounds pretty good now....Haven't messed with the 3watt mode yet, so I guess I'll have to report back on that later....
