I've always set my amp EQ settings working from Bass, Mid, then Treble. My new amp channel controls are ordered: Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Presence.

What sequence do you guys normally set after volume & gain? I reckon if a particular tonal application requires extreme settings & I set the Treble first, Mid will be less effective, & the Bass control even less.

Is it easier to set the Bass, Mid, Treble or the other way around? So simple a question as to almost be overlooked by the naive.

well, this is for me with my single channel 80's marshall... i try and get a good reasonably clean sound then eq. i find that a good eq'd clean is a good eq'd dirty. BUT! if its a multi channel amp then i would start with the mids, then bass then treble. reason is that the mids are the most relevant frequencies to the human ear. hope this helps.

I dont have a presence control on my amp but the bass,mid,treble I set at 12 O'Clock and do all adjustments on my EQ pedal so I get a nice clean sound. I set it flat for a start and adjust down any frequencies I dont want and raise the ones I want.
As timbo said the clean sound is good on a dirty channel as well.

im the same as One-Way with the settings. now that i think of it, most amps ive seen seem to be "treble, mid, bass." and not "bass, mid, treble."

If your amp has the traditional fender/marshall tone stack try this;
Bass & treble to zero
set mid to gain level you want, mid full up will be the "flat" setting.
set treble to taste
set bass to taste
Treble is the most interactive the higher it is the lees effect the bass control has.

If your amp has active EQ disregard the above.

i firt set mid and bass, then if it's muddy, i clear it up with treble, and when i have a good basic sound i crank the volume and gain a bit...
