I was fooling around with a riff a few nights ago on my Yamaha QY70--I've decided it's time to sit down and learn how to use the thing (again) despite it's unconventional and unintuitive menu structure.
After I wrote the organ and "bass" part, I programmed a generic electronica-style beat, took the QY70 to my basement, and played along with headphones with my guitar.
Then I decided to try recording the guitar with my MP3 player (iRiver H320) and my stereo Sony mic. The guitar is a Univox 12-string with a Jazzmaster-style tremolo. (Actually stays in tune rather well.) I ran it through my modded DS-1, PS-3, RV-2, and Deluxe Memory Man into my Ampeg J12t.
I figured the guitar recording would be unusable, but it turned out a lot better than expected sonically. Next time I'm going to hook my mic preamp up to it and use a nicer mic to see how it does.
Anyway, here's the link: http://indytone.com/Music/step%20away%20from%20the%20light.mp3
It's just one riff with me fading instruments in and out with the QY70, and then the overdubbed guitar, which I chopped up bits of the wav file that made most sense with the riff... that sort of explains the choppiness of it all as it's just an idea and not finished song.
