So I was milling about the local guitar shop looking at the pedals and I think i finally realized what made me a Boss fan to start with. As I was looking at ElectroHarmonix's offerings it occurred to me why I don't own any, they might sound good but just about all there stuff uses more sheet metal than a compact car. That doesn't bode well for a guy who likes lots of effects I would need 3 men and a humpback boy to carry my board, It's as though the designers said lets make a box the size of a dinner plate and put 1 button right in the middle, hell you could fit 3 Boss pedals inside a Small(yea right)Stone

Yeah, it's just that some brands don't appeal to me at all.
I would never buy some DOD or Digitech pedal, and the current line of Ibanez pedals don't look too good to me either, although tubescreamers are always nice.
I had some bad results with the MXR dynacomp and the crybaby wah pedal so Dunlop doesn't really do it for me either.
I do have some Morley wah pedals which are cool, but for the most part I'll stick with Boss.

Did I mention Behringer pedals suck like hell?

I like the feel of the Boss treadle/switch combo. Those stick-up metal bumps on EHX, MXR etc work all right, but aren't aesthetically pleasing like the Boss method. I do like how compact MXR units are. In fact, I find something appealing about the bulk of EHX too - but having Boss hit on a great stylish case I think. Some of the EHX units are a bit clunky to switch.

If anything, I need some right-angle jakc patch leads so I can cram things closer together...

That's one thing I like about Boss: the no-nonsense packaging, for lack of a better term. They're not designed to be fancy-looking, they're designed to be practical, for the most part easy to operate, and most of all to sound good and compliment the player's style.

While Boss is my favorite effects lineup, I do have a few "other" brands. All I have currently outside the line is a Seymour Duncan Twin Tube distortion unit(it's okay...a little overhyped IMO. For over 200 bucks the switches should not POP when you step on 'em!) and a handful of Danelectro items, different delay units. They're okay, decent bang for the buck, but as far as tone, design and dependability are concerned, Boss is tops!

That's what got me into Boss pedals as well.
The design is timeless and doesn't look out of date at all after 30 years. They're compact but still contain more electronics than the space station. I think the cardboard boxes are a big part of why they're becoming collectables too. It's so sturdy that it will last almost as long as the pedal itself and you can often find mint in box pedals because people don't throw away the packaging.

The big muff, electric mistress and small stone are classics and the holy grail reverb is well thought of by a lot of people, maybe that why EH brought out the muff in a smaller size..the original mistress was a lot smaller than the current version if i'm not mistaken..but i can testify personally what it takes to damage a boss pedal and even with the damage sustained the LS-2 is still going strong,i wouldn't like to bet that a EH pedal could of sustained the same impact and survived.......

I'd put a Boss pedal up against ANY other brand for sturdiness, reliability, & longevity.

Now, if they'd only use SwitchCraft jacks.. I could die happy!

I hate ginormous pedals. Back in my gigging days I spent many years playing and practicing in confined areas. It is also to be able to carry all your needed pedals in a back pack. That way I had the pedals on my back, a guitar in one hand, and a combo amp in the other hand. I could carry everything in one trip.

...of course, I like EH pedals with their metal construction. I suppose its similar to the DeLorean. With that in mind, I wanted to build an all-chromed hotrod with a glass hood but it would probably cause too many accidents.

Anyway, I don't really own any functioning EH pedals but I do like their variety of sounds available.

Been there and got that t-shirt.......i went to gigs/rehearshals on a bike with my little session 1x12 on the carrier, with the guitar in a gig bag on my back and a couple of pedals, leads etc in the pouch........

on a side note...the injection moulds for DeLorean cars were sold off when the company went to the wall and were bought by local fishermen they are now holding down lobster pots and fishing equipment off the coast of ireland.....

The only thing I have that can withstand the same abuse is my SansAmp GT-2. Mind you, it is built using the same principle as Boss: simple & sturdy.

What got me hooked is that they are all housed in the the same casing.
No matter what fancy electronics are inside, outside it's the same shell.
That's probably why I also like Maxon/Ibanez pedals as well.

Then there is the color coded aspect, along with the uniform boxes.
