Hi all I was wondering what everyone would consider to be the rarest Boss pedal out there? I am sorry if this has been asked before but I thought it would be interesting to see if things have changed. I have a DC3 Space D in almost mint condition with the box but sadly no instructions which I would imagine is as rare as most of the ss pedals. Regards Neala |

I'd have to say that the holy trinity of Boss collecting seems to be rare: SP-1 / SG-1 / VB-2
But I reckon the original "traffic light" set (SS long dash) would have to be rarer.... OD-1 / PH-1 / SP-1...
I've owned a DC-3 "Space-D". They are rare but not super rare... Having one in minty condition like you have is awesome though
Maybe: BF-2B / CE-2B / DSD's / FZ-3 / GE-6 / LM-2B... I don't see those around much. There's also pedals like the DC-2 / PS-2 / PS-3 / XT-2 / PN-2 / PQ-4 / PQ-3B... which are hard to get and expensive but maybe not rare as such.... |

In terms of sheer numbers.. things like the DSD-2 might top the charts..
Also in terms of numbers, a black-screw variant of a number of pedals should exist in smaller quantities than their SS-counterparts - like the SG-1, SP-1, GE-6, etc... |

Rare could also mean the least amount produced, or shortest in production time. The PW2 was only made for nine months, The DC3 ties fifth place with the LM2 for four years.
Great pedal that DC3, got the regular Digital Dimension version |

There are always GE-6 pedals on Craigslist here in the Pacific NW. They rarely go for more than $40... I've been tempted a few times, but it seems more like a collectable than a practical use item.
A month or so ago a guy was selling a GE-6 with a PSM-5 and he was asking $40 for the pair. He reposted the ad a few times - I'm not sure if he ever sold it. |

| Wow. those prices are mad. Have you never bought any and sold them on? you could turn a nice pofit from them and I am sure there will be people lining up to buy them. |

| I think a boxed silver screw SD-1 is the rarest Boss pedal. No one here has ever seen one I think. Was it actually ever made? I don't know. |

I've thought about buying and selling for profit, especially internationally. It seems like pedal prices in the UK and continental Europe are significantly higher than they are here in the States.
I've thought about buying them for the silver screws - putting them on some of my older pedals that originally came with silver screws. |

That's probably a good point, I've heard Dr. Bob note before that there doesn't seem to be many TW-1's here in Australia, yet they seem to be common in the US.
I don't know what it's like in Europe, but the music instrument market is quite small here in Australia. We have nothing like the range available in the US. Also, expensive gear seems to attract a premium here if you're buying new (stuff like Moog, Eventide, EHX and even some Boss gear like the RC-50).
I guess that would all have an effect on rarity of pedals here.

The Digital Space D is typically rare because it was only sold in Asia. There's around 30 000 made so from a world wide perspective, it's not super rare.

GE-6 is a pretty uncommon thing around here.. or at least people aren't unloading them as cheap as $40..
low production + unpopularity often signals the more rare items - like the SP-1, VB-2 and PW-2.
Despite its much shorter production run, I see way more DSD-2s up for grabs than DSD-3s (which is too bad 'cos I need a -3!). |

I saw a GE-6 on the Vancouver BC Craig's List over the summer - I think they were asking $60, but it might have been a bit higher. Definitely double digits, though.
I don't know where you are in Canada, Verivorax... I remember the Vancouver BC CL having some nice pedals, but more expensive than down here in Portland or even in Seattle.
Sorry to hijack this thread and turn it into my personal GE-6 tirade... |

no problem!! I'm in/near Toronto, and I don't have enough trusted friends in BC to grab pedals.. I usually just bide my time until the right deal comes around. I have a buddy with a blackscrew GE-6 he wants to sell me, but he's never in my area.
I should start trolling other cities' CLs. |
