I have been reading alot recently in this forum about MIT vs MIJ differences between the 2, there is more then just MIT vs MIJ. You have to take in the components into play.Look back at the dawn age of fender amps,between comparing the amps back with components the amps varied about 20% in either way.now if you add up the the parts in the amp it could vary alot between amps sitting right next to each other on the showroom floor.
Not saying components are better today or years ago.Today components are probably made to tighter restrictions.Meaning parts vary less today then years ago.But they still vary.Look at the codes on resistors most still have a 5% or less, or some still vary 20%.
Now look at a boss pedal made of many caps, resistors, diadoes etc.One part could be off 5% another could be off 1% etc.
Now say if you have 2 pedals sitting next to each other that are exactly the same but with the varies between all components they will sound diffrent.So basically all boss pedals even tho they are made in a production line they in a way are custom pedals.You can do this with any musical product. have you ever tried two guitars that are the same in a store, i have,they both vary. SO there is a difference between MIJ vs MIT.But there is a diffrence between MIT vs MIT and MIJ vs MIJ. |

| I totally agree! thankfully quality control with pedals has gotten much more consistent over the years. I recall a story about how Hendrix tested several dozen brand new Fuzz Faces to find the handful that sounded good... imagine if we still had to do that today, to find the one DD-7 at guitar center that sounds good. |

I agree..a little known fact about Leo Fender was he started as a repairman on old radios etc..... Leo was in the business of making money as well as developing the Guitars and amps...i remember reading about the jensen speaker,they started using them cause the were the cheapest they could source at the time.....Jim Marshall was a drummer with a music shop responding to a demand for amps because of the trade embargo on U.S. goods at the time in the U.K... he basically opened up a Fender Bassman with his mate and electronic whizz Ken Bran and copied the circuit for his first amp.... and they would of used whatever they had locally to develop it.... i've said this before,i like Boss stuff BUT i know that Boss/Roland are a huge corp with profit margins,supply and demand issues,availibility of components etc... to consider like any other major manufacturer...different components will have some affect on the overall sound if they vary for pedal to pedal or country to country but Boss need to keep some sort of continuity on the sound of the pedal in question because of it's reputation....a lot of this stuff is audiophile nonsense as well,i'm not saying all mods don't make a difference but some of the biggest crap i've read on the net is Claptons famous 'beano' guitar tone.... he used a 6 year old Les Paul,a brand new marshall JTM 45 combo amp and a rangemaster treble booster...all new AT THE TIME....there is never any discussion about the recording enviroment,type of mic,the fact it was a very basic 4 track analogue studio or the fact the amp was cranked and the mic on the other side of the room and they did the whole thing in a day,playing live like a gig....nah it's always about the sort of transistor in the rangemaster,the type of valves,speakers in the marshall or the fact it was a 59 or 60 Les Paul..... and now look at the ridiculous prices this stuff goes for and imagine how much the tolorances have drifted on some of the components 40 years later.....the same with vintage Fuzzfaces....look at what pedals robin trower uses now.... vintage uni-vibes ?...no brand new fulltone stuff.!.Les Paul uses a Boss BCB pedalboard..how many times have the older guys said that overall the majority of guitars are better now than back then....whatever works for you....works..!!... some people don't like the slight boost out of the CE-2....I do.....i think it's perfect for those andy summers type arpeggios and i like that my clean sound gets a little boost and the effect stands out...but don't get too hung up on the MIT vs MIJ thing.... |

| I always go to the music store with an idea as to what item i am going to buy.But i always try the floor model one, cause its close to what it is gonna be. but i always try out the one i am gonna buy cause of the little variances in components.Look at how many people in the forum complain about noisy pedals and some have no problems.Look at amp tubes perfectly brand new tubes,you put it in sounds ok, you put one in the from the same batch and its great.There is diffrences in all equipment that it bought |
