the old ' bait and switch '

what a loser company, email out that they are reducing fees for a promotion and then send a message saying "sorry, that email was not supposed to go out". Having said that ... I guess its now OK to say to a seller, "sorry I bid on your item, I didn't mean to press the bid button, so I'm not completing the transaction because I pressed bid and I wasn't supposed to"

Ebay - for two freaking days, should just go ahead with the promotion.

eBay Sellers:

A few of you may recently have received a note from eBay in your My Messages inbox with the subject line: "50% OFF Auction-style Insertion Fees--Nov 23-25." Unfortunately, this message was sent in error: There was a promotion planned for this coming week that was cancelled. There are currently no plans for a 50% off Insertion Fee Promotion on the dates mentioned in the prior email. Please note that any listings created during these dates will be subject to normal Insertion Fees.

We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.

Ebay is going to get in trouble if they don't start putting value back in the game. Between paypal fees and ebay fees, it is getting to cost 8 to 10% and more, by the time you are through with them.
And alternatives are coming up. Kijiji classifieds has grown like crazy in Canada (owned by eBay), and craigslist is still pretty popular, notwithstanding the bad press they recently got for running some nasty sex-trade ads ... and both are 'free' services with optional u pay for upgrades if you want.
And the biggest threat lurking in cyberworld is FACEBOOK ads allowing you target very specifically to age, hobbies, 'words mentioned in their profiles' and only paying a few pennies per click, the old eBay is going to have to start sharpening their pencils soon, its just getting too darned expensive to sell and u feel it on bigger ticket items!

So yes... they darned should have just rolled with that little promotion, especially after the lame email rescinding it. "pathetic" is an understatement!!!

They sent out the promotion message today. It's 50% off auctions today only. I'm not ready to list today. I've got things to go up this weekend.

I'll have to check into the Facebook targetted ads thing.

Thats absolutely appalling business practice to offer something and then take it away!

Just demonstrates exactly where their priorities lie, profit first, cost saving second, and then customers last.

If they were just starting out with that attitude they'd be bust within a year, max.

Honoring that deal would be a drop in the bucket to them in terms of what it would cost- tell me what kind of a tin-pot organisation can't even afford to keep their own promises?

They may enjoy market dominance now, but this kind of behaviour tends to leave quite a sour taste in peoples mouths and will do them no favours in the long run-

Step forward Google- the door is wide open; all you have to do is walk right through it.......

(crosses fingers)

I'm pretty much done with selling on the bay. At first it was great, but like starr36 said, once the fees are over with (up to 10%) it's just not worth it!

Oh I'll keep looking for pedals there though! I've been lucky and have got some really good deals there as a buyer. It's just not worth it to sell anymore...

That's my 2 cents

That's true. But sometimes people just want to get rid of stuff and don't really care. To me anyways, it seems the only time you can really sell something on there is when you sell it at a price so low that others will purchase it just because they think they can just turn around and sell it on ebay themselves for more and make a profit.

I put up 6 auctions tonight. The first 4 went up for $.35. Not bad considering they were Buy It Now listings with prices over $100.

Who wants a crazy Peavey dual clock chorus for $54.99?
