So, this ebay seller is claiming that, "As many already know the Silverscrew series was limited to under 10,000 (total) units...". Has anyone ever heard this before?

From someplace that ought to know...a quote from 'The Boss Book' page 055 - section headed 'Coin Screw'...

"Among the coin screws in the first period products (so called "silver screw" units have been confirmed up to around BF-2 serial no. 10000), there are a number of different types, with subtle differences in form"

Perhaps a misinterpretation of this? It isn't conclusive and it could be read in a number of different ways. Maybe the seller believes that serial no. 10000 = 10,000 units...from what we know, that is unlikely to be true.

Either an honest mistake or a bit of 'artistic license' here? Definitely never heard of the 'limited edition ss' idea before - that feels like steamy bull poo....

Yeah, I reckon 10k is complete bull.
Roland/Boss has never revealed any production totals as far as I know. When I estimated the production totals (http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4258), I estimated 10000 SP-1s alone and 99% of those have silver screws. I can't claim that my data is correct but I think there's far more silver screw pedals than 10k.

I think the Boss Book's error is partly due to translation, and partly not truly understanding the nature of the ink-stamp serials.. the rare 5-digit ink-stamp (either after 9900 or 0500?!) might be what they mean here.

Good point verivorax - I didn't realise that the Boss Book was translated but that would explain a few oddities in it - still a great read though
