So I've had this for a while, but can't find the shimmery chorus I'm looking for...think like Knocking on Heaven's Door GnR intro. Or even...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIdNTapWq68
Anyone have any good settings for the Chorus Ensamble.?
Thanks.
Also, I like the Police's chorus tone. |

Can't get this tone out of a CE-5 (not my analogue ones at least!)

I've been looking for this chorus sound for a while. I have the CH-1, CE-5, and CE-2 from Boss, plus the CH100 from Behringer and the RG-1 from Marshall. None of them really sound like the clip.
Dr. Bob tells me the Arion SCH-1 is the way to go. |

actually, that sounds very much like a CE-5.
that's probably the only boss chorus that can get close except for maybe the DC-3.
the CE-3 has a similar voice to it but it has less tweakability than the CE-5.

| Interesting... my CE-5s are both analog and both sound the same, and neither have that much movement or wetness. |

try this:
e level: 1:10 rate: 12:45 depth: 12:15-12:20 hiband: 1:50 lowband for humbuckers: 10:00 lowband for single coils: 12:55
keep in mind the clip in the video has several effects stacked: 1. it's a solid state amp (or clean tube amp with a lot of headroom and alnico magnet speakers) w/ low output alnico single coils. might even be rolled back on the volume a lil 2. there's a spring reverb set to "room" intensity and a 2 echo decaying delay of around 150-250ms.

The 1st sound can be got with a CE5, but the key to that 80's sound is you must also use a delay box.
You can pick the delay time/feedback etc. out on the palm-muted parts.

Hmmm... Reading all the responses maybe I just haven't found the right setting. I know the CE-5s are both working OK becuase they sound the same as each other.
So, to help me out, can someone let me know the exact effects that are stacked up here plus some intiial settings to try (on the non-chorus FX)? Thank you kindly! |

heh...
i gave initial settings :P
find a cleaner than edited for TV amp (in the recording it sounds a lot like a made in USA fender solid state, e.g. deluxe 112+, stage 112SE, 85, studio/pro 185, etc.) and turn the amp's reverb to somewhere between 2 and 4. could probably get by with a clean tube amp (deluxe reverb, twin reverb, pro reverb, super reverb, etc.) and similar setting.
delay... find a feedback and repeat setting that gives 2 echoes with each echo losing about 30-40% volume per echo. start ~150 ms and work your way up for there.
if using a reverb pedal... "room" size setting with ~75-100ms should do it.
also, set the delay before the chorus and the chorus before the verb.

Many thanks! I'll give it a go tonight. |

I know it worked out for me. I hadn't checked the thread, so I didn't do reverb/delay...I'll deffinately try that out tomorrow though. teh verb tomorrow!..but I got a pretty nice tone for Knocking on Heaven's Door...
as on a clock... E level at like 3 rate at 12 depth maxed high at 3 and low maxed
I'll play with teh verb tomorrow! |
