Anybody had the chance to compare the original Ibanez TS808 with the reissue TS808?
I traded a pair of Seymour Duncan humbuckers for a nice reissue and like it a lot, but how close do the reissue go? The reissue is pretty expensive so I guess they made some efforts at Ibanez

I've never played through a vintage TS808, but I do have the Robert Keeley "Mod Plus" version of the reissue. It's incredible!

From what I've read or heard about the reissue, it is to the exact specs of the original, but the reissues are supposedly more consistent from unit to unit. I read an article about the originals a while back saying that SRV had to try several 808s to find one he liked and that Eric Johnson would line up many 808s at once to choose two that sounded similar enough to have one as his main 808 and one as a backup that sounded close enough to the same to not notice a difference if it needed to be brought out on stage.

Considering the fact that the cicuit for the TS9 is 97% identical to the 808 (only three components are different), I imagine Ibanez has it down to a science by now (the consistency that is).

I'm happy that they did the reissue, as around here (Hollywood) the originals go for $600 to $1000 USD!
