Thought I would open this one up since it interests me so much. Has anyone tried modding their Daddy-O? I have had a great time fooling around with that one. I got Monte Allum's kit for it, but it was not very good. I won't bore you with the details unless you want to be.
I abandoned Monte's mod and started my own. The outcome really surprised me. This incorporated some fun changes and some Diodes in series. If you're curious, just reply!
I'll post some pics later

I always like to hear about Monte's Kits not working out for people, please do go on.
I keep wondering if I should try his Compressor kits, I'm dying to have a good compressor, but my money might be better spent on just getting a Keeley. |

As much as I love Keeley, if you are good with a soldering iron, you may want to look into the Ross Compressor Clone kit they offer at Build Your Own Clone (they also have VB-2 and SG-1 Clone kits), or you can even get one prebuilt (they just started offering prebuilt BYOC pedals again), because while I have heard nothing but praise for the Keeley Compressor, it just seems to be a bit outrageously priced in my opinion. |

| The Keeley Compressor is actually very well worth the price in my opinion. You can save a few bucks by grabbing a used one on eBay. I think when they cost what they do in the first place, people that are selling them tend to have cared for them very well and you can generally get one that's in like-new condition for a fair bit less than retail. That's what I did after hearing one in action in the studio a couple of years ago. |

Well, most of Monte's other kits are very good. VERY good. But, the Daddy O didn't cut it. I still think the CS-3 Opto mod and DynaComp mod are incredible. IMHO, the BD2-H2O can't be touched.
I'm with you guys on the Keeley compressor. Awesome, but too much money. I think he's a little to proud of his products and mods, to be honest. Some of it is merited. What he has done with delay pedals is impressive. I think his DS-1 mod is weak. You heard me. Still, I'm not knocking Monte or Robert, their hard work inspires me! I enjoy the romance of modding.
Back to the Daddy-O, I'm finding some truly disturbing things about them, mainly in Quality Control. I'm amazed these things aren't breaking, as poorly as they are built. And new, they cost more than a DS-1 or SD-1! I think the robust casing keeps them intact. If these PCBs were in say, a ZOOM 5XX casing, they would be breaking. |
