Hi Guys
A fair while back, I was lucky enough to repair an Albit Cranetortoise GC-1 Great Compressor.
This is a very interesting device, it has twin Optp-Couplers runs off 9V AC, which runs into a 4 times multiplier (Quadrupler).
It's then split into twin plus & minus 15VDC regulated rails.
Does anyone here (Now with all the new members), have any info or experience with this compressor? Plus I though some of the Guys Like Laurie, Ssanyee, MoonWatcher, Zentropa might be interested.
I have found a few Japanese-Asian sites that sell them, & for big $$$ plus I found a simple note/inst. sheet on the Albit site.
I rebuilt the multiplier, it had under spec. & ruptured caps.
It works very well, considering that its Opto, it responds reasonably fast, It's transparent, which is good.
I just wish I knew more about it. I believe it's considered to be a Boutique pedal.
So here's a good Challenge for you Zentropa, I know you've had almost every pedal known to man, in your grasp at one time or another.
Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Franzoni Not actually true, that about me being a sly old Fox. I originally posted the question way back here in this thread:
http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2547&SearchTerms=cranetortoise
I just figured, that we had many more new & equipment savvy members, that someone would know something about the GC-1.
And I'm guessing, that I might have to re-post it again, in a few years...
While I'm on the issue of Full Disclosure, I also have a dBX 117 compressor in my collection, scored from the local recovery center - tip. These might have been posted before you were an active member, & that's why you missed the threads.
Like Zentropa one wrote here, in one of his very early posts, "Topics & threads get buried very/too quickly on this forum". or words to that effect.

Hi DeFrag
I bought it as a bulk lot of pedals a while back, around Feb 2007.
It works very well, it responds reasonably fast, considering that its Opto based. The internal pre-amps are running at +/_15V, for heaps of headroom. It's seems to be very transparent, which is good.
I guess being A Tech, I just want to know more about it, there seems to be, almost no information on this thing, other than it is highly regarded/prized.
I do have the one sheet (all in Japanese-Asian) setup sheet. See below, perhaps someone here is able to translate it for me?

Hi Dingus
Thanks for that, I have been there many times, they have added a few extra Videos, since last time i went there.
I guess, I was really after something more technical, or perhaps a thread somewhere, on some forum, or a decent review. maybe a Schematic or service manual. The demo videos, on the Albit site, leave quite a lot to be desired. The playing & sound quality is poor to atrocious.
I have been told they are very expensive out here in Oz. I guess as time goes on, something will pop up.
