Some good serial number info in this thread. Looks like the Touch Wah became T-wah from serial number 9500.
Here's the list of TW-1 serial numbers in my archive

| That numbering is all over the place: 7000s followed by 200s followed by all sorts of big numbers. Have we figured out the last and first? |

Bossarea -
I have a TW-1 with serial number 0500 and a DS-1 with SN 8800. The long dash on my DS-1 is considerably longer than the dash on my TW-1, but according to your data it would seem that my TW-1 would also have a long dash. Thoughts? |

The numbering should be correct. Boss pedal production started at 6400 and every month they bumped the number by 100. When they got to 9900 they had to roll over to 0000. Soon they decided to move to the 6 digit system instead so the last 4-digit serial number is 0500 followed by 000000.

As you've noticed, long dash is a bit misleading when talking about the TW-1. Sometimes you'll see threads mentioning 'T under W' or 'T under a' which is more accurate. Here's a picture of the 3 different TW-1s. The middle one being the long dash version even though the character isn't any longer than on the other ones.

if you want to add my other TW-1s to the list.. I have those two #7400 and another #7600 - all clear switch - in addition to my #9400.
Very interesting DS-1ish colour on that middle T-wah. That seems to be a rare variant.. did the font size change at the same time as other long-short dash changes?? |

Thanks, serials added. I think the colour of the middle pedals is just due to the lighting/camera. Unless the pedals were lined up next to eachother I wouldn't take any notice of colour differences. |

Thanks Bossarea for compiling the information Are there any more pedal variations we should try to date? If everybody submits their serial and variation its possible to do, and its very interesting too

Okay, if it's any help, my TW-1 is a clear-switch long-dash momentary-LED 7400 Touch Wah.
I don't think it's the most unusual, but will provide any information if needed.

I still don't know how to upload pictures to this forum, but FWIW the serial number on my T-Wah is 121200. The TW-1 starts under the W if that makes any sense. If it doesn't it looks exactly like the middle one in the picture posted a few posts prior to this one.
Edit: It's as if the one I have is referred to as long dash. |

Keep forgetting to bring my details with me here, anyway time........................
I did have a close look at a few things:
One thing is interesting: the square or circle underneath the top part of the batt. compartment[ the part you step on with your feet!!] This part contains a square of circle depedening on age of your pedal.
Looked at other pedals of similar age and you can see similarities, like black screw, silver screw and/or clear switch or just black switch.
Some of these observations and consitant, but there are exceptions.
Anyway, I may not be clear, will post later when I do have the relevant info with me including serial numbers and pedaltype. Yes I did look at other pedals as well.
Heh, we have been through this stuff quite a while ago and now that we have the serialnumber detactor it seems less relevant to post all this info as we already know age of pedal.
Alright, keep having fun with your pedals and playing!! |
