[RHETORICAL RANT] Who decided to put the DS-1's volume pot in the middle!?!
All the other Boss dirt boxes: BD, various OD's, couple of SD's, ALL have their tone pot in the middle. TS-9? Tone in the middle. TS-808? Tone in the middle. My Eternity clone has its tone pot in the middle. Even the Rat has its filter control in the middle.
Why, oh why oh why are the DS-1's tone and volume pots backwards? Drives me crazy. [/RHETORICAL RANT]
BTW, my dirt pedal lineup for the upcoming 25th reunion gig by my college frat-party-and-bar band is the E-clone and my latest DS-1 (approximately a Monte Allums Recto mod). The modded SD-1 will come along off the pedalboard as a spare.
Here's us at last years class of '84 reunion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCuXczlk6WQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HeRVmL2cjA
...and 25 years ago, in the spring of 1985: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7vPdccFodA

| The DS-1 volume pot never botherd me really. I know it could be a problem if you need to change the volume during a gig but I never did. Great videos as well. |

| More annoying for me is that if you set the VOL control to zero there is still sound coming out of the pedal. |

I believe you are referring to HAIR, which indeed is in short supply these days. This year, there will be NO videotaping from upstairs. |

Hey Rich_S, that Message in the bottle was just amazing As for the DS-1 I never thought of it properly but I always kinda took it that it is the distortion that is one way and the rest are overdrives so they are the other. I have no idea though why they had to make the layout different from the OD-1 back then when all they had to do was add the tone knob down in the middle. |

| The attitude onstage has changed a lot since the 80s... I don't see myself dancing so much while playing! |

When i used my MIJ DS-1 on my board i kept the volume dimed so it didn't really bother me..
sounds good rich...that girl can really sing and your guitar playing and tone sound good as well... ....don't mind the begrudgers..always remember grass doesn't grow on a busy street... from a follically challenged guitar player in Dublin.... ... |

Thanks for the complements, all. That's my MIJ BF-2 and a DD-3; they've been my "Police" sound for 25 years. The amp is my DIY Marshall 18 Watter clone.

I just spent the last 2 hours (and last 6 beers ) experimenting with my board and I put my MIT DS-1 in the loop and dimed the volume knob (something I never tried before). Tone at 11:00, Dist at 12:00 -2:00, Volume FULL THROTTLE!! , Using my Les Paul and a GE-7 to boost the mids a bit, and MAN it sounded good!!
coulda been the beer, BUT im under the opinion now that the DS-1 shouldnt even have a volume knob! Just Tone and Dist!! Tear that volume circuit out and let it rip!! |

Wow, really great singing on Message in a bottle and Kids in America, I bet that's the same girl? If so, then 25 years later she still can sing very well
