I plugged in my ancient looking NF-1 last night, and with it on, turning the knobs has zero effect on the sound. I did get it to kind of work by wiggling the output jack, but it think it was more cutting out than gating.
I found on the schematic that there are trim pots inside to set levels, is it worth investigating these first or does anyone have any pointers? |

| What has worked for me is to put some rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and clean the contact points inside the 1/4 inch jacks. I've bought what people thought where clunkers on ebay and done this and you would be supprised at how much gunk comes out of there and the difference in the sound. I like to dab the alcohol off on a napkin before I put it in the jack to prevent it running on to other parts. Good luck |

I took the bottom of last night and had a nose, there's barely anything in there. The whole pedal smells a bit odd, kinda musty. The components all look fine, and i can't see anything loose.
I'll take it apart completely over the weekend and give it a clean and check the connections properly. |

| Success! Kind of... I stripped it and cleaned it, lots of goo came off, it took a few crackly goes, but it does work now, just not too powerfully. Keeping the gain low, it very definently cuts the noise out. If I bring my guitar volume up, it's like the gate can't cope, and the sound cuts in again. I've had a fiddle with the trim pots, and it's helped a little, but I won't be using this in my setup, but to be honest, that's not why i bought it (it's because it was cheap). I may have another go in the future, but it's not knackered anyway.... |
