Could someone elaborate on this description of an OC-2 Octaver (with an "r")?
Works perfect. Solid Boss pedal, quality throughout! The Oct2 knob is interesting in that you need to pull it up to move it past 11:00 or 1:00.

O.K., here's my guess. The Oct 2 knob is the one on the left. If you look closely, it is not the same size as the knob on the right. It looks taller and the set screw looks like it is in a different location. If the knob on a Boss pedal is pushed down too far on the shaft of the pot, the skirt of the knob drags on the nut that holds the pot in place. I've only had this problem with a knob that had the top broken out so that the shaft of the pot didn't have anything to stop against.
So, if the replacement knob is taller than a Boss knob, it's possible that the skirt of the knob is getting stuck on the nut underneath & you have to lift it up a little to get it to go past.
I'd send the seller an e-mail & ask for more info,
Grace and peace,
Steve

It's probably something like that. It was just that the way the seller described it, you'd think Roland put in a pot with a push-pull switch, or it was some sort of mod. Otherwise, you'd expect to read something along the lines of "you have to diddle with the Octave 2 knob because it's broken."
And I'd hope that I'd have better luck asking this seller a question than I did asking chuck1813 if the OC-2 he was selling was MIJ or MIT. His answer? "don't know". How about turning the pedal over and looking, dumbass?

I know what you mean. You get some weird stuff when you start asking questions....

Apart from cosmetics, is there any significance to the Octave/Octaver thing, or is it just a collector's issue at this point?

Stahlhart, no difference between any of those two pedals, they sound exactely the same, so it is just a cosmetic difference.
When you want to make sure you are dealing with a Jap. pedal, ask seller questions like: "Are they any small screws in the controls of the pedal"? "Serial number: Stamped or on a paperlabel in the batt. compartment"? Usually people can answer to these questions, but yep I agree, you need to stir people a little bit to get the right info out of them. |
