I has similar problem last year with my one ..turned out to be the switch...i was recommended to change it but was too lazy so i got some electricial switch cleaner and it did the trick... worth a go...mine didn't go completely dead but there was a serious volume drop and it sounded very weak and tinny..... |

Have you checked the power line? You use 9V battery or AC adaptor? |

| I like to keep a couple 10" leads with alligator clips on each end to bypass components during troubleshooting. |

Hi Vim Fuego
At first guess: The battery? The battery clip. or its connections. The bypass switch.
Maybe a wire has come loose.

Thanx for all the suggestions..
I can measure 9V comming in to the board..
I have bypassed the switch so its always on.. Connected the blue and green wire ( http://www.geocities.com/j4_student/crybaby95.gif )still no sound..
I can measure the resistance changing from the pot so i figure thats OK ??
Any way to make sure the transistors are working?

Check the coil resistance and the voltage on the trs collectors..
Probably, you have a bad transistor.. |

So the plot thickens..
Changed both transistors and the diode again..
Now I get sound trough when connecting the blue and green - so obviously the switch was faulty..
But just the straight sound.. no sweet sweet wah
What do you mean by checking the coil resistance??

Hello, Vim Im afraid you are a bit confused with those connections.. To put the effect on you must connect the purple wire that comes from the output jack, with the blue and left the green open. With effect off (partially bypassed) its the green with the blue that must be connected.. Check the schematic and do the connection like i said above, then tell me the results.. By the way, the coil is that round black thing in the midle of the board.. Cheers |

Yes I was indeed confused.. thanx for your patience..
So wired up correctly I still have no sound when effect is engaged.. So I'm about to trow it through the window. So don't be surprised to see this headline: "Man injured from flying crybaby"
BTW it seems the coil measures about 13 Ohms .. Have no idea what its supposed to be.. |

The coil seems OK!! Now for the next step, you must need some kind of a signal tracer!! Are you shure you have the 9V line ok??? Is there voltage on the collectors of the transistors?? Get an input line of an amp(any kind) with the two lines(alive and ground). Connect the ground to the ground of the cry baby(you must follow the schematic-dont make mistakes or any wrong connection).Turn the crybaby on. Connect a guitar(or any other source) to the input jack of the pedal. With the "alive" wire of the amp, connect to the collector of the first stage transistor.Play the guitar. You must ear the sound of the crybaby buffer stage. If you ear sound ,it means the first Tr. is working. Then do the same thing for the 2 Tr. Ill keep waiting for the results..Good luck!! |
