Hi all
Finally got to see one of my alltime guitar heroes in the flesh.... ....the band were stunning and Beck was in great form.... managed to get a look at his gear close up...looks like he's changed his set up since the Ronnie Scotts gig last year but the same band..vinnie caliuta on the skins, tal wilkenfeld on the bass and jason rebello on the keys...... all he had on the floor was a snarling dogs wah pedal and a couple of A/B boxes...he had three amps...a 60's plexi and 4 x 12,a 70's marshall head(metal front with the rocker switches like my JMP superbass MK II head without the logo) with another 4 x 12 and a amp called a Channing with what looked like a couple of 1 x12 cabs stacked... the channing was the only amp miked.. the Marshalls were just kicking out and he was f*****g loud..... ...played all the well known stuff from the 70's and 80's...blow by blow, wired, there and back, guitar shop etc....in all a great gig.. the keyboards could of been a little bit louder in the mix but apart from that the sound was great.... |

Good luck Franzoni, I wish I was there, Beck is one of my favourites, right back from when I was very young and heard the Yardbirds. Jeff Boogie and stuff like that that really blowed my mind and was a big part in my efforts to play guitar. Did you know that Hendrix was greatly inspired by Beck?

I played my Blow by Blow cassette until all the oxide had worn off the tape. Great player, & he was forwardly very innovative for his time.
Did you manage to get any pictures.
Oh yeah ----- Lucky bugger. Regards Dr. Bob |

Didn't actually see any of the effect pedals or processors(he had a been seen using a lexicon reverb rack unit again recently on top of his amp) but the A/B boxes must be linked to the effects offstage as on the start of 'blue wind' you could hear a flanger..sounded great... also the the leslie effect could be heard from time to time, last time i saw a pic of his board on the web it was a H&K Rotosphere... didn't hear the ring modulator he was also using a while back...but very little effects used except a bit of 'verb and a cranked marshall with a strat....with Beck it's all in the fingers anyway.....
P.S i took some pics with my phone but the quality is pretty bad..my friend had a much better quality camera in his so i asked him to mail them to me and i'll see what i can do.....
Yep i am a lucky bugger....... ............ |
