Dr Bob and DasBeef..i hope i can answer some of your questions...first off...fender as far as i know made their guitars in japan after the worker buyout from CBS in the 80's as the actual tooling and machinery for manufacturing wasn't included in the deal...thats why they started the jap line of fenders,also as far as i know there was the squier series and 'real' fender strats and teles made in the same factory...what i heard was the early ones including the JV squier series (called this because the serial numbers started with JV and then the number) were made with japanese timbers and american electronics and hardware included in the CBS buyout and are highly sought after these days... i think this was around 82/83 but i'm not 100% sure on this....the point i was making was the later ones like the doc's reissue tele or your silver series strat if they are anything like mine are probably good solid guitars but might be let down a bit by the pickups,tuners etc all things that can easily be upgraded/changed afterwards....by the late 80's early 90's the quality of the hardware i think had dropped a bit but they were still putting a dent in fenders american sales(fender USA had got back the manufacturing plant by this point)i recently was asked to play a deluxe strat belonging to a son of a friend and i wrote a long post on a rory gallagher custom shop strat i had a lend of for a while and wasn't overly impressed by either to be honest...i thought my '89 standard strat was miles better... i have found both my squiers to be good solid guitars with a bit of tweaking and some new parts upgrades...
B.T.W.....the silver series was only for the squier range doc your tele is a more upmarket guitar again by fender japan....i read an article where steve cropper of Booker T and the MG's and the Blues Brothers Band used one before going with peavey and used to love looking at the faces of guitar buffs after shows when he showed them where it said 'made in japan'.. they all thought someone like that would be using an original 50's tele....

Guitars? Oh, blimey... at the moment I have two six strings: A Godin Radiator in Canary Yellow, which I love beyond all comprehension, and a Bronze Burns Marquee. The Burns is great, but I've had to fight it every step of the way... I've had to reprofile the frets, rewire it, block the tremolo, and replace the bridge single coil with a Seymour Duncan Little 59 humbucker (which sounds great). It's bashed and battle-scarred and probably worth about 10p, but it is now completely mine!

| Hey Caliban - Just curious about what Godins go for over there. Here in their homeland they are very reasonable. I have an SD that is a surprisingly good axe, too. Love the action and the sound of the Duncans, though the scale's a bit small for my paws... |

Godin sell the Radiator for about �300 over here. A ridiculous price for a US/Canada made guitar. I've seen the Exit 22 going for �225 - an absolute steal.
I do like the Radiator - it's all those quirky but expensive guitars (Rickies, Fender Jag) in one package. Of course, you need the right amp. I think this brand are excellent: http://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/ |

Canada is NOT a part of the US. That's like saying that Vox is made in the UK/Bosnia, because Bosnia is part of Europe. The thing that we as Canadians are the most proud of is that we are not part of the U.S. of A. |

I know Canada is not part of the US..... I've been there! Apologies for any offence...  ... however I thought Godin made the parts in Canada but shipped them to the US for assembly? |

On further research I find that some Godins are assembled in New Hampshire. Is it the old Guild factory? Anyway, in the Global economy it is common to have the less technical work done in a foriegn country. Too bad. Check out these, they are all Canadian. Made in Saskachewan. I've tried one, it's the nicest guitar I've ever played and I have two Gibson's imported from the US.
