Hey, I've got a newer (chinese made) Vox AC15 with the stock wharfdale speaker in it. I'm wondering what people suggest as an upgrade speaker....I've heard good things about some celestion speakers and perhaps emimence...but I want to know what all you think!

Speakers are a personal taste. The more expensive model AC15/30 use the Celestion Alnico blue speakers for the genuine Vox chime. Other people have used Eminence and Weber speakers with success.

read up on some info on the net for possible personal taste that different speakers provide. for example maybe you like warmth, or mid heavy or bright or a full sound etc...

Try an EQ pedal thru the FX loop before you change your speaker. They can make a huge difference to the sound of your amp and allow better shaping of the sound than the onboard EQ controls can. Its the cheapest mod as well.

Meh...I don't even know. I've just heard the wharfdale doesn't do the AC15 justice. I can say it doesn't seem to handle distortion amazingly...I play pop and rock type stuff so warmth is always good. I don't usually use a lot of gain (for playing live atleast). I'm a newb at this stuff...this AC15 is my first decently nice tube amp...

Ya...I was going to try a GE-7 but then for every good review I read on them I read a bad one and just kind of decided not to get one (plus I ran out of money at the time). I'm not really planning on jumping into upgrading my speaker right away...I just wanted to see if anyone had actually done it and if they were happy with their mod and what they did...or just suggestions etc. I kind of forgot about the EQ pedal idea tho...thanks!

I will probably get shot here, but try the Behringer EQ700 or Dano Fish and Chips, cheap and work great.

I can't see why....
They are after all basically straight ripoffs (clones) of the Boss GE-7, but use more modern JFET low noise op-amps.
The Dano is very good, the pots on the BehringClone are skeletal frame types, & a little iffy, easy to bump, but do work.

Hard to recomend one over another..i have the stock original speakers in the Musicman...(eminence i think) the original goodmans in the selmer and the for marshall i bought two Celestion V 30's...all great speakers but the ones i like the best is the old 2x12 Vox P.A. cab our drummer gave me ..when i opened it up it had two original celestion 25 watt greenbacks in it... they just sound fuller in the midrange to my ears..... the EQ in the effects loop also sounds like a good idea..... |

hey...does the fish and chips take the same power supply as boss pedals? I'd want to daisy chain it with my BCB-60...

It should. I occasionally use a BLT slap echo(similar casing, etc.) and it takes a Boss adapter. |
